I pre-washed these with soap and warm water and immediately placed them in the machine to dry off. After they were hot I applied canola oil with a hair brush. It doesn't look like it was coating, but worked great for a waffle recipe (from the manual) which I modified only by NOT adding the sugar. Worked great and took the waffles right out. FAR FAR better than the last two machines (one of which I still have). Cooks faster than my Cuisinart machine and definitely easy to take the waffles out.

My wife goes in to work at an unGodly time of night, and thus I've been the breakfast-maker for my son for just about all of the school days of his life. I am not what you would call a "cook." Especially when I have not had coffee. Breakfast has usually been a bowl of cereal with something I can microwave, like pre-cooked bacon or sausage, and a little cup of fruit on the side. It's okay, and when he was younger I could artistically serve such breakfasts so that they appeared like comical little faces, and he was happy. That said, when this little donut/waffle iron became available, I grabbed the heck out of it. Now, on Sundays, my wife makes some special batter - like cinnamon apple, chocolate, or pumpkin spice - and makes waffle sticks for the whole week. Put them in a zip-lock bag, and now I can put them in the toaster, heat them up, serve them with a little syrup and powdered sugar, and my boy has hot waffles that he loves and finishes every day. What a blessing it has been! My wife also made hash browns in them one day - she wasn't happy with them, but my son and I finished every last bit. There are several more recipes awaiting trial (the recipes have been no doubt delayed by the appearance of a certain pressure cooker that has completely enamored my wife and made her learn what "Pinterest" is with a passion), including the donuts. The Throwback Waffle Maker is a breeze to clean. Everything pops out and is easily washable, rinseable, and dryable. Everything has been very elegantly clean, and the results are always delicious. It doesn't take up much space; it is stowable in a short shelf area, and as we will never have enough cabinet space, this is much appreciated. Knowing the difference this device has made in our mornings, the $80 price tag is very much worth what you get. This truly is one of the neatest, handiest gadgets I've seen in a long, long time.

Used mostly by the kids for the Waffle Sticks. The plates for cupcakes work OK'ish - don't cook all the way through. But the Waffles - awesome. They *always* come out perfectly cooked. Easy clean up every time. Looks great on the counter 9where it's been sitting for the last week as the kids use it *all* the time. Looks like this will be a dedicated Waffle Stick maker for the rest of it's life!

We tried this out and found it is really functional, easy to use, and really does turn out attractive looking and tasting products. It is the type of unit that goes great for a college student to use in the dorm or for the bachelor son who is out on his own and really needs to have something to make quick breakfasts or snacks without having to go to the fast food places. Our sons have set this up in their trailer and really enjoy it since it does not take up a lot of space. Great item which is a really nice throwback for sure!

Love everything about this waffle iron! Easy to use and clean, and it makes a dozen waffle sticks at once. As a mom of three, this is a huge plus!!

heavy duty got it for my youth group breakfast for something special.

fun and easy to make treats!! donuts ready in 3 minutes, making it great even for busy weekday mornings. The only thing to remember is to only fill of containers 2/3 full. I filled them up to the top in overflowed on every single one.
