I lime the taste of air popped popcorn the best, but I don’t like the noise and time. I like the convenience of microwave popcorn, but I don’t like carcinogens. I like the lack carcinogens when using a paper bag to microwave my own kernels, but I don’t like the waste of paper. I love this thing! It’s fast. It’s reusable. It makes good tasting popcorn. It’s everything I hoped for when making quick popcorn.

UPDATE: I am 10 months in with using this bowl regularly, and it has definitely held up to it's original standard! I still wash it in the dishwasher (top shelf) and it has definitely kept up with my regular use. The only complaint is that the brown spot on the bottom (from using too much oil) had grown a touch, but it hasn't affected the flavor and definitely still seems safe to use. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Yeah so I like popcorn a lot. Like a lot. This bowl has saved me so so much money since I bought it 6 months ago. Kernels are so much cheaper than the instant bags, and the air popper can let you make healthier popcorn or flavor it your own way. This air popper has two different fill lines, for one serving and for two. If you fill it to the two serving line, it'll pop the lid up so that it just rests on the mountain of popcorn teeming out of the bowl. When I bought this, POPCO sent me an emailed pdf with literally hundreds of popcorn recipes. However I've found my favorites to be either avocado oil and sea salt or olive oil, sea salt, rosemary, and lemon. The only issue with this is that it can be difficult to clean if you are an avid hand-washer. It comes clean in the dishwasher though, and I've put both the lid and the bowl on the top shelf regularly. I use this basically everyday (I told you I really like popcorn) and it hasn't shown any signs of wear other than some brown parts on the bottom when I used too much olive oil. All in all, what an amazing buy. If you're looking for a way out of junk food, this is such a power move. Pro tip: look up oils and their smoke point before using this. If you use oils with a higher smoke point (like avocado) your popcorn will be less likely to be burnt and you'll avoid the brown spot I got in the bottom of mine when I used olive oil. Also, keep in mind that your microwave times will be different based on what you put on it (and honestly you can just put naked kernels in and be fine).

My hubby, the popcorn monster... This gets used almost.every.day! Easy to use, easy to clean. Foldable, but it’s used so much it’s hardly ever folded. He prefers adding oil to the kernels before microwaving. He also loves dousing the oil and kernels with ground black pepper before microwaving. Makes a slightly spicy bite. Different microwaves do better than others, leaving fewer unpopped kernels. How do I know?...hubby totes this around with him. Visiting family, friends, neighbors...if he’s gonna linger awhile he’s taking his popcorn with him 🙄

First, there are many brands of this style silicone popper, and I suspect they all work about the same. I chose this particular one based on .... the colors available. LOL. Had to have purple. I did read reviews first, too. It took me about two weeks to find the perfect set of conditions for popping, and now I am completely satisfied. Currently, I use no oil for popping, Redenbacher popcorn only, filled to first line, at 3 minutes on my 1100 watt microwave. Generally around 10 kernels left unpopped. It pops to about 2" below the top. No scorched or burned popcorn. Perfect, fluffy, tasty popcorn. I use a few sprays from a can of butter flavored canola oil popcorn spray, just enough for some powdered seasoning to stick to it. Very happy. Prior to figuring out the perfect times and popcorn brands, I did experience burnt kernels, scorched popcorn, and excessive unpopped kernels. I tried several brands, before deciding the more expensive Redenbacher was best. I tried different power settings and times, as well as varying between the first and second line and in between. The optimal results were what I listed above. I recommend doing the same, experiment until you find the perfect settings/brands. The main variable here will be the microwave oven you use. Once you find the perfect combination of filling line, time, and brand, you will have perfect popcorn every time!

Popcorn is my addiction and my ultimate comfort food. I've been hooked to Popsecret Homestyle, just that specific brand and flavor, for YEARS. The only thing I liked better was when my mom cooked it on the stove in this ancient cast iron pot. However, recently I've been becoming more aware of the effects of the chemicals used to line the bags of microwave popcorn, and I'm not a huge fan of the waste and plastic wrappings. Enter the search for DIY popcorn without the mess and clean up of cooking it on the stove. I tried the whole DIY in a paper lunch bag (with and w/o oil) and it works ok, but the kernels don't really get hot enough to pop into big fluffy popcorn and each time I ended up with a significant number of unpopped kernels. I received this Silicone Microwave Popcorn Popper and was excited to try it the same day. I used Popsecret kernels, and their little measuring scoop was pretty much in line with the first measurement line on the POPCO bottom. Hit go on the microwave and w/in about 2:30 min I had a full bowl of really fluffy popcorn. I have to admit I was impressed. With some of the mixed reviews I wasn't expecting to be blown out of the water, but the popcorn was fluffy, and I had maybe 4-5 unpopped kernels, less than in my Popsecret Homestyle Microwave popcorn bags. I did not add any oil to the POPCO and supervised the microwave until I stopped hearing pops. Clean up was a breeze, especially since I didn't add any oil to the POPCO. I just rinsed it and let it air dry, compressed it and tossed it in a drawer. The lid is not hard plastic, it is also silicone. I was surprised by that, it looks rigid in the photos. I'm happy to have another silicone product that should last years and as of now (2017) doesn't have any adverse health effects to add to my popcorn.

My new POPCO Silicone Microwave Popcorn Popper arrived yesterday, as promised. I couldn't wait; had to try it out immediately. All I have at the moment is a bag of very inexpensive store-brand popcorn, so that is what I used. As directed I poured kernels in the bottom of the popper just up to the upper fill line. Also as directed I put the silicone lid on very lightly, without pressing down on it (which might create a vacuum seal, which would be bad!) I have a 700 watt microwave, so based on other reviews I read at Amazon I set the timer for 3 minutes on maximum power. I did not use any oil. At 3 minutes there was still lots of popping going on, so I extended the time another 20 seconds. At that point the popping had definitely slowed down, so I took it out of the microwave at that point. The popped kernels had filled the popper, pushing up the silicone lid just exactly as in the photo. I poured the popcorn into a large bowl. There were very few unpopped kernels, and the popcorn was fluffy and just right, not burned or scorched. Then I added a couple spritzes from an olive oil atomizer and a sprinkling of sea salt, and then used tongs to toss the popcorn a little, like a salad. It was PERFECT. Fantastic taste and texture and SO EASY. I am so glad I bought this popcorn popper! Thank you POPCO!

I am an almost daily popcorn eater. I have been a very long time Air Popper, and a hater of anything microwave popcorn related. Boy, has this little device proved me wrong! Anyone who uses the air popper knows about the health benefits of not popping in oil, but also has to deal with the cardboardish texture of the popped corn when eating it. I have to say, I grew used to it over the years, but after being convinced to try this popper by the reviews, my air popper has been retired! Imagine delicious, perfectly popped corn with no oil IN THE MICROWAVE! Sure, it took a little experimentation with my different corns to get the amounts and timing correct, but I am so glad I gave this a try and took the time to get my formula just right. Remember that every microwave is different, and brands of corn are too, so getting your perfect formula down may take a little time and effort. One helpful hint (that I love) be conservative on the popping time. It takes a split second to go from perfect to burned. You can always eat the popped corn, and salvage the unpopped kernels for another round! Try doing that in oil!

I figured for what I paid, if this popper was a dud, I wouldn't be out much. Now I want to buy them as Christmas gifts! I love my popcorn but don't really like all the crap that goes into the packaged microwave popcorn. Go ahead, judge me for using a microwave AND wanting to control what goes into the food I eat. Anyway, this thing works. Seriously! I played with the timing and the power setting and now I can pop up a bowl with just a few old maids and no burning smell. And I control how much I make! No more paying a premium to get single serving size bags of microwave popcorn. The one I got makes about 6-8 cups of popcorn, but I usually only make 4 cups. Since I don't use oil in it I only rinse it let it dry. If I was going to downsize to a tiny house, this would be one of the things that would make the cut.

OH EM GEE this thing is the jam! Pop it with no oil and then I put the popped corn in really big bowl and dust it will Pam butter flavored spray just to help seasoning stick. My favorite is to use Wabash Valley Farms Dill-Icious popcorn seasoning combined with some white cheddar popcorn seasoning. Healthy, crunchy, yummy snack! We have a microwave drawer that this thing barely fits in, so I can only use enough popcorn so that it doesn't overfill. 1/4 cup at 3 mins seems to do the trick with my microwave. GET THIS THING! I'll never buy bagged popcorn again.
