Averages 58 FPS; fun and easier-to-operate for a Mega blaster.
My ProChrono Digital chronograph measured the speed of the darts fired by this stock Nerf Mega Megalodon blaster at an average of 58 feet per second (FPS) using Nerf Mega darts (it is not capable of shooting any standard Nerf Elite darts). The typical average velocity of a Nerf Mega blaster is 70-80 FPS, so this lower velocity a bit underpowered for the Mega line. But unlike most of the other blasters in the Mega line, the Megalodon has Slam-fire. For those who don’t know what that is, it is the ability to fire off darts in rapid succession by holding down the firing trigger and repeatedly priming the blaster to fire a dart off every time it is primed, resulting in some semblance of rapid fire. The tradeoff of using this function is often the reduced accuracy due to the shaking of the blaster while it is being furiously primed, and that does seem to be the case with this blaster, although it is designed to be a hip-firming type of blaster anyway. Luckily, the Megalodon has a top priming handle with a free-spinning grip that makes it much is easier to operate. Because of the leverage, compressing the spring is easier to manage, and therefore easier for younger or weaker Nerfers to use the Megalodon. The large orange turret is not designed to be removed once installed. The Mega Darts still whistle when they are fired, so since this blaster has the highest onboard dart capacity of any Mega Blaster so far (date of this review 3-15-20), I must say that it was amusing to hear all of the darts screaming as they fly in rapid-fire succession. There are 3 sling mounts, one above the front barrel, one on the top rear of the blaster, and one under the pistol grip. Speaking of the pistol grip, I find the ergonomics to be comfortable while holding it, and I think it is an appropriate size for this somewhat compact (for a Mega) blaster. After testing, I discovered that my Megalodon had started making a rattling sound. It was as though something was internally broken and bouncing around inside the blaster’s shell when shaken, but I did not detect any difference in operation or performance (so what-evs). Aesthetically, the large oversized white MEGA words cover only the right side of the blaster’s shell. The letters M and E are elevated and make a creaking sound when pressure is applied to them. The trigger-pull is of a normal weight, and functions as expected. Despite looking like a shotgun type priming handle, the large light grey handle in front of the trigger is not a functioning part other than a place for your hand to go to help prop up the blaster when not using the top priming handle to hold it. In conclusion, the Megalodon is a stocky and stubby Mega blaster with a fairly high ammo capacity for it’s ammo type, but most of all, it is amusing and fun to use for most Nerfers. Of last note, it is possible to mod the Megalodon to use Nerf Elite darts with the right caliber-changing chamber inserts (2x Worker 10-packs, designed for the Rotofury), but expect to spend an unprecedented amount of time, money, and labor (and plumber’s Teflon tape) to install (and the removal of 20 dart posts in the turret). After the mod, though, the payoff is increased velocity somewhere in the 80-90 FPS range.

Easy to handle. Doesnt jam. Blast away
My seven year old loves it. Doesnt jam at all. Shoots really far as well. One of the first guns we grab during our father son nerf war. This and twinshock is a must have.

Seriously Awesome Nerf Gun! Seriously lame packaging
This is an awesome Nerf gun! It’s relatively easy to use, in which my five-year-old boy can easily pull back the slide and make it shoot. The darts go far and the aim is accurate. Two downfalls. First- The darts or extra large, so they are specific to this gun only. Second - The packaging that it comes in is terrible. Just a brown cardboard box. No external pictures or plastic viewing available to see the gun.

This thing is amazing
I am not a big nerf person and I bought this for my 5 year old kid. It is like a canon. He was super impressed just based off the size of it. It has a nice large handle that he can easily pull back to get it ready for the next dart. This thing has some power. He is blasting dinosaurs off the edge of the couch and basically blowing up hot wheels with it. I as an adult had my hand at it a few times. It is quite fun and very accurate. I only lowered my presentation down a point because I bought it in the plain box and it was to be expected. In the regular box it looks awesome. Plain is very plain.

Earned Major Cool Points
I bought this as a birthday present for my friend's 9 year old son. He loved it!!! He is a Nerf-ista. I didn't know if he would like it, but it became his favorite and this is a kid with almost every nerf gun. It's a good buy.

My favorite nerf gun in the house.
What’s not to like about giant nerf darts that shoot dramatically? It’s easy to operate, I as an adult who never had a nerf gun before could do it. Outstanding for chasing your spouse.

Great buy
Great product came in easy to wrap box. The package was reduced waste packaging so that was better. The kid wasn’t sure what it was when he opened the gift but it was easily opened by him and started.

Tons of fun!
Great Nerf gun and even better when you give it to your 6 year old son who torments his 11 year old sister with it. Having a hard time staying awake? Use it on your wife for a banshee like scream that will surely keep your blood flowing and your heart beating like a champ!
