Finally found a decent hitch-mount ski rack.
The Yakima and Thule ski racks are just frames that attach to bike racks, but only the big, heavy bike racks. I have a Helium 3, which doesn't support either one. So I've been desperate for a good hitch-mounted ski rack. The Buzz Rack isn't perfect, but I'm completely happy with it. The designer missed the memos from Yakima and Thule about ease of use. You need to unscrew and remove a bolt in order to release the rack to open the car's hatch, and you need to unscrew and remove a bolt to swing each part of the rack into position. But it works and works well. It was easy to set up, following the directions carefully. It locks the skis, and worked fine past winter. I look forward to using it again, weather permitting.

Exactly what you want it to be
This rack turned out to be just what I was looking for. Different racks exist for people with different needs and preferences. If you feel a roof rack would work better for you, it probably would. I have always been interested in a hitch mounted rack because it's easy to access, easy to mount for my ski trips and remove for the rest of the time, it stays out of the wind so there is no noise and no loss in fuel mileage and seems to catch less road grime too. On top of all that, I think it looks unique and just plain cool. It catches a lot of looks and interested questions from fellow skiiers as well. The cons are that it obstructs your view out the back window and hinders your access through the tailgate. It does not prevent access, but there's an extra step involved (about 30 seconds to unscrew the hinge and rock the hitch rearward.) This did not bother me as my car has a backup camera and I packed accordingly, putting the things I access most in the back seat. The hitch is very sturdy and well made. It is not cheap, flimsy or at all questionable in it's longevity. It was very easy to assemble, much easier than I anticipated. You'll be up and running within 30 minutes and it includes everything you need to safely and securely transport your skis or boards. I traveled about 600 miles round trip with two snowboards (in bags) and two sets of skis (in bags). The bags make for a tight fit, but still doable, and they protect from road grime. I only docked one star because the rack uses an adapter for mounting to a 2" receiver hitch and it could be tighter. It allows a little bit of wobble, but nothing that concerned me, just something to improve upon. Highly recommended and a great value.

Solid design / Solid performance
I have multiple suv's that I take to get me to the slopes. So I was looking for a hitch based rack for the skis for our family. Most all attach to a bike rack and they are not very solid or stable handling more that a pair of skis or two. I have a family of 6 and needed something solid. I took a chance and have been highly impressed. I like the strength and functionality. Getting the skis on and off is a breeze. You have to screw the pin in place to have it swivel up and down which only takes a minute. My only complaint is that the pin that holds the hitch into the hitch mount also requires you to screw it in as well. Instead of the normal solid bolt with a clip that slides through the hole. That is a minimal complaint. I have used it a dozen times so far and it is holding up very well.

fits Tesla X
Works fine with Tesla X, you just have to tilt the rack to open the trunk. You can tilt it back up with the trunk open to remove skis. The skis do not seem to get dirty riding behind the Tesla. My only complaint is that they should have made it a bit more accommodating to wider skis. We have 4 kids and it will not be easy fitting 4-6 adult skis on the rack if they are too wide. Overall very happy with the unit.

Happy with purchase
Our trusted all-wheel drive minivan gave up the ghost so we were left to try to find a way to transport 4 skiers (3 female) with all our gear in/on our Subaru Outback. I went with a basket for the roof for the extra gear (which eliminated my roof-mounted ski rack). I was not willing to use our bike rack as the mount for a ski carrier after reading the reviews. The Buzzrack is a very acceptable alternative to the roof-mounted rack. Pros= very sturdy, skis sit tight and no reaching/climbing on the car to reach skis (no more rubbing against a dirty car to skis). Cons-skis will get road splash if bad weather. Minor inconvenience is that the mechanism to fold the rack away from the car is a screw-in bolt. I didn’t find it as annoying as some some reviewers, but with snow around the bottom of the rack it was a little annoying. One other “quirk” is that you have to put the key into the locked position to get it out once you have the one bar of the rack open in order to unlock the other bar. Not a big deal. I guess the best way to sum this up would be that I probably will be using this rack, instead of the roof rack, even when just going on day trips.

Very sturdy and easy to load skis
This thing is solid, sturdy and yes - heavy. We carried 4 sets of skis that we had put inside ski sleeves/bags. We covered the skis so they wouldn't get salt, dirt and more salt on them as we drove our 300 miles. The skis fit into the rack just fine with the bags that were covering them. The rack is installed on the hitch with its own bolt that is screwed on. I had bought 2 different sizes of locking pins thinking I would just use those - but they would not fit at all - because the hole in the buzz rack itself is threaded and will only accept a bolt. Once installed, it rode beautifully. Very nice not having to climb up on top of vehicle to put skis.

Phenomenal for the price.
Works great and was inexpensive. Just what I was looking for to carry skis up and down the mountain with a Jeep. The rack is made well and is very sturdy. I was impressed at what I got for the price I paid.

OUTSTANDING Ski and Snowboard Rack!
Outstanding ski/snowboard rack! It's been on a 2000 mile road trip to 4 different ski slopes and not a single issue. No rattling at all. Held 3 pairs of skis and a snowboard. Extremely well built. Kept everything locked and secure in the rack for the entire trip. Great alternative to a roof mounted rack. You do have undo a single bolt to lean the rack forward, but that takes all of 7 seconds. If you're looking for a solid hitch mounted ski/snowboard rack, this one is a GREAT choice.

If you have a hitch and don’t want to buy a roof rack, get this.
Sturdy mount for my skis. With everything nice and tight there is little to no movement even while on the highway. I would suggest using a ratchet rather than the included tool to get the hitch bold nice and tight. Since I already have the hitch, this was a much cheaper option than adding roof racks.

The lock tumblers are made of pot metal and break easy.
The top lock tumbler broke apart while we were driving on our first ski trip. The armature opened and the skis fell out. The part that broke was the mushroom shaped spade that locks into the hole. Amazon's interface to contact the supplier didn't work, but I reached them directly by e-mail and they replaced the broken tumbler, gave me extra tumblers and suggested that the straps are necessary. Thanks for great support Buzzrack!
