I'm very impressed with this little scanner. It's so small and unobtrusive. I can leave it on my desk, plugged in to my computer via USB and not even think about it being there, until I need it. It would be very easy to travel with. It seems to weigh less than a pound. The Epson ScanSmart software is reliable and easy to use. The scan quality has not been to the same high bar as my ScanSnap, but it's been quite respectable. Glad I made this purchase. Knowing myself, if something isn't convenient I won't do it, and I need this scanner to take care of receipts and papers right in the moment (without having to fire up a full size scanner.)

I never thought about getting this type of scanner until I started doing some work from home. It is so light and portable. I bought a hard case for it right away to protect it. It scans beautifully and the software is very easy to use. I'm not sure how I got along without it before! I am scanning invoices and receipts everyday. It is a great value for the money. I would definitely buy this product again and recommend it to friends.

The Scanners most important features for me are it is both compact and portable. Further it is easy to install and use.

I needed a scanner but didn't want a big one, as I don't have that much to scan. This worked out just great. And I can take it with me when I travel. Scans cards to big sheets. I even scanned a 100 page document and put it into word. I know scan everything. A great Scanner.

I PURCHASED THE EPSON WORKFORCE ES-50 TO USE IN THE OFFICE. THE SCAN SPEED AND SOFTWARE IS QUICK AND EASY TO USE FOR THE PRICE.

I love this gadget. It’s perfect for conveniently scanning documents. It does take a while to scan (because you have to feed 1 sheet at a time), so this device is not meant for large projects. But it’s a great addition to my home office.

My older printer/scanner “Canon” no longer had software updates for newest Apple operating system. Printer worked, but not scanner. Bought this as a temporary fix until I ran out of ink cartridges (most expensive part of printer). Works flawlessly. Very portable.

I was very pleased with this scanner I have used it for 2 weeks and its so easy just plug in the UBS and its ready to go. I actually had to scan 100 pages for my accountant and it did a great job. Would buy again.

This Epson Workforce ES-50 Portable Sheet-fed Document Scanner is fabulous! I followed the “Start Here” guide and charged the unit, downloaded the drivers, connected the scanner to my Microsoft Surface Pro and I was set to scan. I have never had such an easy installation and first time operation as this. The ES-50 can only be used by connecting it directly to the computer via the supplied USB cable. The other models, 50W and the 60’s, have more options such as wireless transmission and scanning from mobile devices. It scanned the letter that came with the product in slightly under 5 seconds. It immediately showed up for review with several options such as rotation, scanning more, deleting, and view size. Under Settings there are 4 primary categories: 1.Scanner Settings: Scan options include resolution, doc size, contrast, text enhancement, background removal, and more. Device options include counter, sleep timer, cleaning, calibration check, 2.Customize Actions: Offers several Send To options including email attaching, Google Drive, Evernote, and Dropbox. Save To options include print, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 3.File Name Settings: which are the same as any Office document 4.Save Settings: PDF and JPEG each with additional options 5.Other Settings: which is allowing Epson asking to receive your usage info – this can be turned off. I was primarily interested in the quality/legibility of documents that were not typed. I tried to scan a 4” x 6” photo, but the paper is too thick so it doesn’t go through correctly. It catches on the left and the rest spins through. I tried several ways of “helping” it through but none of them work. I scanned a note wrritten in blue ink on yellow legal paper (see photo) and it came through beautifully. I scanned a 2 ¼” by 5 ½” gas station receipt (see photo) which I sent to Word (pdf). In the Review Scan screen the typed part was perfectly clear. The odometer reading I printed at the top came through fairly well, though it interpreted 115,904 as 115,961. I also write down the trip miles and MPG then surround each with parentheses – that part was gibberish. However, as you can see in the 2 photos, everything came through quite well despite the fact I write the mileage info on my leg as I’m about to hastily drive away from the pump. Since I drive my vehicle for business scanning each receipt will be helpful for my weekly expenses, accounting, and taxes. I scanned a handwritten card and saved it to Dropbox (jpeg). It came through better than most scanned handwritten docs I’ve seen. Perfectly legible though it was pure gibberish when viewed in the Review Scan screen. Lesson learned: The Review Scan screen may not always be an accurate representation of what the final scan will look like. This unit is going to get quite a workout from me. Over a year ago I had to send my Mom to the Memory Care division of assisted living. As the only child I have the challenge of going through everything including mountains of her scrambled documents. At least now I can scan and file as I figure things out. No more stacks of boxes and filing cabinets in the basement. Additionally, the OCR capability will make my life much easier.
