Exact fit. Saved $1200 replacing it myself. Tie string to prevent from drpping it and get the knuckled drive to get around to the back of the engine with ease. I unhooked nothing.

I installed this in my 2006 Silverado with 184K miles yesterday. Direct fit and worked as it should. I recommend borrowing or buying the actual socket for this particular installation as I had a 1 1/16th deepwell but the socket was too thick to get between the plug on the back for the block. I purchased two of these as my Daughters 2008 Yukon gauge is not working properly. Will update if anything changes.
