Get what you pay for
Changing my review to 5*. This is the best quality head you can get in this price range. Everything else is plastic. Still recommend saving/spending more for better quality. Identical to the slightly more expensive Cayer brand head, this video head fulfills the bare minimum of smooth video requirements. Tilt moves are smooth with the occasional hiccup provided the user micromanages the tilt, while pans are almost impossible to perform without jerks. Of course it is under $100, so it can't be expected to perform like a Sachtler or O'Connor. It gets the job done. I was able to get decent footage with the addition of digital stabilization to smooth out the bumps, albeit many takes were necessary to get a usable shot to start with. Locks work wonderfully, the head is solid with the only plastic being the knobs. However the alignments have poor quality control making for wobbly screws, ill-fitting rosettes and scratchy drag design in the pan system. I wanted to like this as a backup, portable head, but I can't rely on it enough to justify keeping it. Not bad for 50 bucks.

Better than expected and dual purpose too.
My intended purpose for this Video Camera Tripod Fluid Drag Pan Head was to improve my hobby of video recording missile launches at Vandenberg Air Force Base. After receiving the pan head, I immediately realized I could use it for the rifle that I use for preditor night hunting. As mentioned in other reviews, the pan head 360-degree turning was not smooth and felt a bit jerky. However, I was able to eliminate that problem, and now it is pretty smooth if not perfect. However, I never handled another name brand to compare it with. The 360-degree turning pan head fix. During watching a one-hour TV show, I would tighten the pan locking lever as tight as possible, without feeling I was going to break it, in multiple positions. By the end of the TV show, the jerky feeling was completely gone. I am delighted with my purchase, and I don't think I'd be any better off with a more expensive brand. The Quick Release Plate Locking Lever has been improved. It only requires about 1/4 turn to lock the plate in place. The other feature that came in handy was the inclusion of the 3/8 inch Extended Interface. The threaded mounting hole made it possible to attach a light mounting bracket. I created it to attach my Predator Tactics Coyote Reaper Predator Hunting XXL Rifle Light to. I recommend this product.

Great for the budget price
I don't have experience with more expensive heads, so this is my perspective comparing it to ball heads, I think the build and materials are good and will last, it securely holds the camera in place, panning is acceptably smooth, complaints I've seen about balance are not reasonable, of course the camera needs to be balanced or it will dip when not tightened down. This isn't the fault of the head, but the users. I bought this very cheap, and I imagine most getting this are on a budget, so I would say it is a very good deal if you get it on sale, it will last me a long while. That said, some of the machining of the boom arm hole was rough and I needed to remove metal that should have been cleaned up before it shipped, a QC issue, not a design flaw. Just make sure the threads are clear, I don't imagine this is an issue on must units, one of the two holes did need attention on mine. But all said, this will last and work well for me.

Quality build. Smooth operations.
I need an interchangeable fluid head for casual shooting of my kids' sporting events. This Avella head fits my needs perfectly. It is made of metal and feels pretty stable. The operations are very smooth - panning is of good speed, tilting holds the angle well especially with the lock on. I am very happy with this purchase.

Better then my Neewer
Surprisingly good. I bought it to mount semi-permanently to my jib arm. It uses a different shoe from my Neewer one. The plate from the V501will work with the Neewer, but the Neewer plate will not fit any other shoes. Quite ironically, I came to Amazon buy another Avella plate and in the process saw that the plate the Neewer was offering for about $3 more insert picture bottom was the same as the Avella, but not the same as the one on MY Neewer head. And frankly, I'm amazed that someone can manufacture machinery this finely made for $56!

Amazing Value
This is shockingly good for the price, and way above what I was expecting. Nice, fluid motion, easy set-up. I considered taking off a star because there was a small plastic part that had already come off before I even used it. However, the part turned out to be a really minor cosmetic covering that's barely even visible unless you're really looking up close. I have no regrets.

Credit given when credit is due. Works with Ronin-S plate.
I was going to buy famous Manfrotto 502 but couldn't justify the price and some negative points which came with it. After deep research I'd decided to purchase this $59 head instead of $179. Oh boy, I was so right. It is smooth, quality made, doesn't feel cheap, and allows me to use the plate from Ronin-S which is very important for me. I don't experience any balancing issues as some other people mention here (Canon R + 24-70). Overall, this is a fairly priced product. And yes, you can install some extra goodies on it.

Tripod Fluid Drag Head
The Avella tripod fluid drag head is exactly what we needed. Smooth panning and easy to use. Perfect for our cinematography needs. The quick-release plate allowed us to transition from tripod to shoulder rig with ease.

Very solid, but pan tilt only.
I haven't used it for more than a month, but it really does the job for me. I bought it to go on top of a monopod that, like most monopods, has a ball joint at the bottom. So I don't need it to do more than pan and tilt. It's very smooth, stable, simple to operate, and feels like it's working with me, not against me.

Get To know the dials prior to attaching any gear. Run it through once or twice.
This is a solid fluid head that has smooth resistance when panning. For this price point I would recommend to friends.
