Much More Durable Than My Previous Ball Winder

I have owned a plastic encased smaller (4 oz) ball winder for several years. It had seen better days, so I decided it was time to invest in a more significant winder (and I had a birthday, so *technically* it was a gift). This of course arrived quickly through Prime, and I was quite surprised, in a good way, how heavy it is! The winder is large - it has to be to handle 10 oz. Most of the balls I wind are 100g of sock yarn, so this should work fine. I tested it with 6 skeins of sport weight yarn, about 200 yards each. It took a little getting used to the crank compared to my old winder, but it was simply better. I didn't need to constantly tension the yarn off my swift, and because the flier moves, and not the cylinder, the yarn never "skips" like my previous winder. I am in the midst of several projects, and I think my husband was disappointed I didn't really have any yarn to wind upon it's arrival!

You get what you pay for

Although the price is steep compared to other yarn winders I've purchased, the quality is worth the price - in my honest opinion. Most parts are metal - including the gears - so it's quite durable. It's a bit larger than other yarn winders I've seen at lower prices, but I was able to wind an entire 16oz skein of yarn into a ball on this without a problem. The packaging was well done, the instructions clear, and the assembly quite easy. Overall a great product.

Loud when on wood table

This is a great product. The only problem I have is it is kind of loud when attached to a wooden table on wooden floors. On carpet it's less loud. Otherwise this is a great product for what I bought it for.

Great product to wind yarn in easy to use cakes

I love my yarn ball winder. I used it as soon as I got home from work when it came in. I was able to make a ball that was 11oz but I went slow so that I didn't have a mess. The only issue I found was that if you use silky yarn of any sorts, it's a little harder to get it to wind because the yarn wants to slide which is normal with silky brands. It makes great and easy to use center pull yarn cakes and it's easy to put together and take apart and store. I would suggest not putting it on a plastic table because it will leave a mark but I'm not complaining. All in all this is an amazing product and I love it. I will use it over and over again.

Easy to use

This device works GREAT! It does a great job as it described. It’s easy to assemble, good to use with less noise. It comes with a scissor which is very nice. So far, it’s the best I’ve used.

Buy it, it's awesome

Don't understand anyone else's assembly issues. Had it mounted to the Mrs.'s graphgan table I made her in 5 minutes and had 3 super saver skeins caked in 20 minutes. Most of that time was the skein innards get stupid when they get low. Works amazingly well. Much better than the little cheapy one I bought her a few years ago. Only thing is, it is a bit on loud side but I'm a metal head with a killer sound bar so not a issue for us at all. Highly recommed to any serious crotcheter.

Wow! This is the real thing!

If you pay any attention to these reviews please read this one. I went the cheap route and bought a 'so called' quality yarn winder only to have it break after 3 spools of yarn. It was cheap, cheap, cheap Chinese quality. This winder is heavy duty, heavy weight, well made and I know it will stand up to my amateur winding needs. This is the RIGHT ONE!

Great yarn winder

My wife has been using this for a few months now. SInce Sept. it's Feb. now. It works excellent! Took a lil bit of a learning curve to figure out the best angle to have it at, and the best way to run the yarn through the eye hole without it coming out. Once that was figured out she was flying through winding everything she needs for the next project. She loves it!
