Very easy to put together and run

Well timing is everything & in this case everything came together for me in good time.... Meaning, I have needed to cultivate some new life into the soil of my side yard for some time now..... & this weekend the weather cooperated nicely enough to test out the new Craftsman 9 in. Tiller & get a job done a long time coming :) Good News - She easily fired up with gusto on the second pull....gotta love it when that happens! So - I like the overall design, it is well balanced, easy to operate & the handlebar/throttle set up is nice as it did not cause me undue fatigue. And this tiller is pretty lightweight .... making it easy to grab go & get'er done! The tiller comes with 1 bottle of 2 cycle oil to mix with 1 gallon of gas [40-1 ratio] & instructions... Assembly? Well .... it comes pretty much fully assembled, all you need do is pop the wheels on, straighten out the handle bars & tighten them up..... then gas it up & you are ready to let it rip! Noisy? yeah a little, lol it's not too allfire terribly loud though. IMO this tiller did an admiral job, when you take into consideration of just how gnarly my soil was ...... packed hard & tight... lots of little rocks & very cold!, the surface had thawed but it was icy below 5 inches. Yes it was tough.... but she held up just fine :) So, I am very pleased with this Craftsman tiller, She's easy to use, rugged, lightweight & so far...reliable. Getting this tiller has been a great boon for me.... not only am I finally going to get a nice looking lawn... I see no reason not to get that garden I keep dreaming about going this year either! IMO this Craftsman 9in 2 cycle tiller is a sure bet, if a small/lightweight easy to use 9in tiller is what you are looking for, look no further as this is the ticket to getting exactly what you want. 5 Stars + Quality Product Recommendation

Seriously impressed with the purchase! Big rocks? -- No problem!
Extremely satisfied with it's performance. I purchased a new home this year, and have a pre-existing garden/vegetable area that was used for almost everything but planting. After scouring the top layer of soil and removing LARGE rocks (softball size and bigger), metal scraps, trash, etc... I decided to give this bad boy a chance. Setup took less than 5 minutes. It started on the second pull (after priming). I let run for about 30-45 seconds before pulling the throttle and getting into the project. Not only did it till the soil with ease, it dug out close to 3000 stones/rocks the size of a golf ball and never slowed down. It kicked up close to 200 rocks the size of a baseball and another 50ish softball sized rocks. Not once did it become jammed or stop operating. Yes, some areas take a little extra muscle and you have to work it back and forth to get a good till, but that is very much expected. I didn't have the highest hopes with this machine, but it blew me away. After cleaning the teeth and pins I saw VERY little damage to it. I had rocks EVERYWHERE and fully expected to see some damages. The area I did was around 300 sq/ft. As long as it holds up, this will continue to be one of my favorite purchases. Highly recommend!

Great for the Small Garden
I have a small raised bed garden and I've always dreaded turning the soil over in spring time. The manual digging is my least favorite thing. This tiller is compact enough to get into my 4 ft by 10 ft beds and easily move around. (I have multiple beds in this size). This isn't too heavy so it made working with it easier. First off this tiller was very easy to assemble and to get started. Compact enough to store away in a small area which is good because I don't have tons of room to work with. As the gardening year goes on I can't wait to see what else I can do around the yard. I have plans to make some new flower beds around the house and believe this will do a good job.

Seemed to flood 2nd use, now it's roaring again
This thing cut through my overgrown garden soil which seems to pack hard after every rain. It's so rich it attracts weeds beyond belief. Which discourages me from even going in to tend to veggies later in the season. I will Till my back yard every few days in hopes the latent weed seeds burn themselves out. I'm impressed how it ignores the nightmarish network of Virginia Creeper under the surface, and while not desirable to till through, the stones that crop up seem to be no problem either. I'm sure over time it will wear the tines, but they don't inhibit the handling. It's about as much effort as a heavy vacuum cleaner to maneuver, and while I have an instinct to lift forward to get more aggressive, I'm finding that just using the wheels is easier and will churn through the mounds and uneven parts. I can't imagine trying to do this with batt. machines or electric. Hoping this MTD engine continues its legacy of past yard machines, and minimal maintenance makes for easier starting. Took about 5 min. to assemble, only 2 things to do. Turn the elbow screws so the handles lock, and slip the cotter pin for wheel heigh adjustment. Included Oil, pour into a red gallon gas can, fill with gas, shake a tad, and pour some into the little tank. After about 20 min. of running, it's not even 1/8 used. Oil has a red hue so you can see the level easily while you're running it. Lastly, the red choke knob is a little odd, sometimes hard to flick 'open' - just pull the throttle-handlebards a little and it will free up. Not sure why they call the handle-bars a 'throttle', it's pretty much open or not, it just engages the tines, that's all. Once you let go after running it shuts off. I did somehow flood the engine after 1st use and it wouldn't start. I opened the air-filter, took the foam out and let it air out some. Hard to start again, But after about 20 (they're light) pulls you can hear it wanting to turn over and fire up. If this happens again I may take the plug out.
