I like the option that you get with this tool. It will cut the groove where you need to sew so your thread will be below the top of leather and will not wear through, it will mark a cut line, it will mark layout line and bevel the edges .

It'll do the trick

Seems to do the trick. Good beginner's tool. The only disadvantage is you have to change bits to do different tasks. But I guess that's the point. Buy one tool instead of several.
