First note... If you have a 2019 RAM you'll get something different than what's pictured. That's a good thing! You'll remove the drivers tail light, and just pop this thing onto the two factory "nubs" - two screws to reinstall the tail light and you're done. 3 minute job.

Must have for anyone with kids

Different than what is pictured but that’s fine. This is actually hidden behind the driver side tail light and makes for a factory like install (shame on Dodge for not making this standard). This was an easy 5 minute job and give the gate a much better feel. Not to mention it’s a big safety improvement.

Why did it take me so long to get this?

I saw this thing, and just never pulled the trigger. I finally ordered it and WOW. I was missing it. This is on a 2019 RAM 1500 - New style. Such a simple install, and it makes a world of difference! Pull the tail light, pop it on the little mounts already in place, put the tail light back on. You unlatch the tailgate and let go - it drops at a nice easy rate and doesn't bang to a stop! Once installed, you can't even see it - it is hidden completely under the tail light. I highly recommend this.

Not as pictured, Much better design than pictured Way better than expected

When I received the package, I thought I was missing parts. After reading the instructions, I realized the pictures in the product description were flat out wrong. The truck is already equipped with the mounting studs. All that needs to be done is to remove the left tail light and pop the strut on. The strut is totally hidden behind the tail light. I attached a picture from the installation instructions. Probably the simplest installation ever. Works great, exceeds expectations. The only question is, why isn't this stock from the factory?

Works great on my 2019 Ram 1500

I did have a little trouble getting off the two plastic grommets that help hold the rear light in place, but other than that the install was easy-peasy and took no more than 10 minutes, if even that. But follow the directions and install the bottom end first. You can still easily install it if you do it reverse like I did. Works like a champ! You need one of these if your tailgate does not have a hydraulic assist.

This should come standard on 19+ Rams

This thing is amazing. Makes lifting the tailgate super easy and lowers nice and controlled. For the 2019+ rams there is already attach points behind the drivers taillight so you don't see it. Just remove your taillight attach one end, raise tailgate and attach the other end. Reinstall taillight and its done. Super easy and well worth it!

Great add on for my RAM

Buy It! If you have basic home tools you can install this device. Less then thirty minutes I have a slow fall tailgate. Works as advertised can't speak to how long the piston will function. If I notice any changes to the system I will update here.. I don't know what the dealer would charge for this device + install. I installed it for cost of the product and my free time.

Super simple, easy to install. Should have come stock on truck.

Super simple install. At first I thought some parts were missing, but no so. The Truck had mounting points already installed. This should be have been standard equipment on my 2019 Ram 1500. Drops tailgate a little faster than I expected but does the job and slows the rate down by the time it reaches the bottom.

Ram trucks and this tail get assist super easy

Pop off the left taillight on my 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn, then push onto the already installed mount heads inside the taillight cavity!! Vóila! all done! You’ll need a #25 Torx screw driver if I’m not mistaken. What you can’t see after the taillight is reinstalled IS what you get!

Easy install, works well

10 min install. 2 - T25 screws, 2 plastic clips...pull out (driver side only) taillight...push on product. Put everything back. Took a few pics to show. Good design by Dodge here and good product. Wish it had a bit more "assist" but definitely doesn't clunk coming down
