Pricey, but worth it
The square terminal is a god send for those of us who have medium sized, mobile businesses without the infrastructure for a full blown square register. Actually, if you set up the Square terminal with a cash drawer, it is much better than a large, fixed Square register. Out of the box, we were able to get the Square terminal set up with our business' square account in just over 5 minutes. I was a little wary of moving away from our mag strip readers, but we were losing sales by not having an easy way for customers to use their pin credit cards. And some segments of our customers never really felt comfortable sliding their credit card into a dongle connected to an iPad and not receiving a paper receipt afterwards. I truly believe the Square Terminal helped get more customers over that mental hurdle as we saw an almost 25% increase in sales at our pop-up shop. Obviously, the Square Terminal wasn't the ONLY reason for the better sales over the weekend. But I did get a lot of feedback about using the device and how nice it was to get a paper receipt. This is definitely a pricey, but valuable, addition to my business. And the fact that it is portable is so much better than having an expensive Square Register.

Looking Professional in Small Business
One huge hurdle for small businesses selling items out of a kiosk is the sketchy looks you get when you tell someone you take credit cards and they see you pull out your cell phone and plug in a little card swiper. Customers look nervous. This device looks 10000% more professional. It's also very sturdy.

Quick Service
I really love this device. I’m so glad I ordered on amazon because square was going to take a week which I didn’t have. I would definitely recommend this device and seller. Thanks

Well designed, intuitive software and hardware, represents a significant step up from iOS app.
Very nicely designed interface that expands upon the iOS app we'd been using for many years, and finally allows us to stop wasting time looking for the swiping dongle that needed to be plugged into the iPhone, or waiting for the iPhone to be available since sometimes it was being used for a phone call. The terminal has the major advantage of having a built-in receipt printer (which works perfectly) so customers can now, finally, receive a printed receipt if desired. The other major advantage is now being able to use chip cards as well as to accept Apple Pay. The only downside is that the unit requires a wifi network since, unlike the iPhone, it can't use cell service connections, but turning the phone into a hotspot solves this even when we're working in a non-wifi environment. For the first date of use, the unit required about five minutes to automatically install a software upgrade. It would be nice if this could be postponed until the end of the day to avoid having to make people wait, but if you still have a dongle, you can return to the iOS app for the few minutes necessary. Also note that the fee differs slightly with the terminal than it does with the app + dongle combination. With higher priced charges, the fee structure is better for the Terminal than with the app. Overall, we're going to keep using the Terminal given its many advantages over the plug-in swipe device for the iPhone.

No issues getting it to setup
The compact, the all-in-one square terminal is a wireless touchscreen-based credit card machine that includes an internal receipt printer. Just like a large phone combined with a portable receipt printer. It's well designed and connected to my phone hotspot when I'm on the road or wifi when I'm in the store. The glass is shatterproof, and it should be very helpful in case I dropped it. This is a very handy machine that you can do your business anywhere as long as there is wifi or phone hotspot. The setup was very easy and you just follow the screen and sign up the square account, then you can start using it. The unit does require to update time to time. The first update I got required about 5 minutes to automatically install a software upgrade. There is no way to stop that you and you will have to wait for it to finish. It's not a big deal when you are not using it, but it could happen in the middle of the day where you can need to take care of 10 people in the line. Another nice thing about the terminal is that the fee structure is better than to use the square app on your phone. Overall, I'm really happy with it.

Square terminal is a must
Square terminal is perfect for my small coffee shop. It is simple to set up and easy to use. Could use a better battery life.

Truly a must-have for small businesses and pop-ups.
Market season is heeeere! And I couldn't be happier with that, the weather or this amazing new Square Terminal. I am well acquainted with Square because I do many events and pop-ups but I only had the card reader that could be plugged into my phone. With this terminal, everything you need is right there, portable and incredibly easy to set up and use! People dislike the fees but there is a trade-off for the convenience, and you can always encourage customers to pay in cash. I used this for the first time last weekend and while the market was somewhat rained out, I had brisk transactions that were easy to process with Square! You will NOT regret having this at all, especially if you are a vendor who has to set up shop in different areas of town almost every weekend. The price is phenomenal for what you get out of it and will pay for itself with one successful afternoon!

Fits a good space between Register and the iPad app
First, my use case - I use Square to simplify financial operations for a Cub/Boy Scout unit. We run our annual dues through Square, as well as serve as a backend for our fundraising and concessions operations. Up until now we've relied on an iPad with the Square reader in the headset jack. We've never felt the need to go full out into the Register equipment, though for our concessions especially that would have offered us some utility. So right off the bat...this is a mobile credit card machine that offers the reader and receipt printer in the same unit. Because it's mobile AND it is pretty much an all in one device, already the Scouts have a good alternative to the iPad. For example, infosec. I can just hand the Terminal to someone to collect payments, rather than an unlocked iPad. Moreover, for our use it's great - the size (5.5 inch screen) and weight (under 1lb) makes it darned easy to tote around. The unit is angled though so it will do well on a tabletop. The mobility only goes so far though....it's WiFi or Ethernet only (no Cellular). I got around it by using a phone mobile hotspot, so there's that. As for use - fantastic. No issue at all with ApplePay, and it handles card chips just fine. Magstrips are becoming more and more a thing of the past but that can be done with this unit as well. In sum, this unit expanded our payment receipt options. Having the on board receipt printer also helps A LOT....with the iPad we could only email receipts, but here they can be printed out....and signatures can be collected digitally or on paper. I also like that the Terminal shows an itemized list for the purchase, instead of the total. I mentioned infosec earlier - the Terminal does neuter things a bit, in that you don't get the metrics (sales by employee, for instance) and messing with the sales prices of items is not done through here. However, that to me is a plus...no worries about mistakes by someone hitting a wrong button or something. One can create items for sale in the Terminal though, so I like that. I like the supplemental hardware - the power and ethernet adapters are very well made and ingenious. They can be used separately or they will magentically attach to keep things neat. For all of this, our Scout units get a easy way to accept credit/debit card payments with an acceptable fee. With the Terminal, the processing fees are 2.6% + $0.10. With the app, we were charged 2.75%. This helps us save money for the dues (as they are higher dollar transactions) though for concessions we end up paying a bit more in fees. However, on balance we save a few bucks. Even if it were a wash, having the form factor and other advantages of the Terminal makes it worth the effort. In sum, it's a very good product. It makes doing business easier. There is flexibility here that we didn't get with the iPad, which translates into more efficient operations and less headaches. It's a winner.
