When you hook it up to a bottle of Mapp gas and strike a flame it gets hot and melts glass. That's what it's supposed to do, right? Valve seems tight and reliable no leaks, no explosions, It hasn't made me a better violinist, but I don't blame it for that. I don't even own a violin. And it doesn't taste as good as a hand-breaded chicken fried steak. Finally, note that this is not a useful or safe cigar lighting tool. Don't ask me how I know that.

Overall, I like this torch. It's very well-built, feels very sturdy, and works just as it should. It's important to note that you won't get anywhere near the full heat output on propane. The flame will be a lot smaller. Using Map-Pro will produce a much larger, more intense flame. You could consider it a "dual-mode" torch, as the smaller propane flame can be useful compared to the larger flame from Map-Pro.

Intense flame compared with the standard Bernzomatic it replaced. I really like the brass knob as the reason I replaced my Bernzomatic was failure of the plastic knob. Only drawback would be how fast it sucks down propane. I primarily use it to get a wood stove started so it runs for 5-10 minutes at a time and it seems to be using much more propane than my outgoing torch.

I was starting to worry that you could no longer buy a functional torch. I had purchased another name brand torch from a big box retailer. I was surprised that the auto igniter didn't work and the torch would not manually light either. It has been years since I have had to use one but have never had trouble with them in the past. I then started looking more closely at reviews and noticed that brand has really gone down hill. A torch is such a simple thing that I had always taken for granted. I don't know how that company can expect to stay in business when its products don't work. I was happy to see this torch had good reviews and it works as it should. Who would have ever thought finding a torch that works would be such a big deal.

This is a nice very basic torch for soldering and similar tasks. It is made of metal and works as one would hope.

I bought this some time back to replace my 30 year old Bernzamatic torch that literally went up in flames in my hand just from being completely worn out. I had to use this torch for the first time and am very pleased with it. It is solid brass and can be used with Propane or MAPP gas. To some of the previous reviewers: This type of torch IS NOT designed to be used completely inverted. If you turn it upside down you are now pouring liquid where gas is supposed to be. Don’t use it upside down!! Very pleased and highly recommend.

Replacement my Walmart one with built-in piezo. I'm glad I did as this flame is much bigger. I really do not mind manually lighting it.

First day of use found this to be of high quality. This is exactly what I was needing. Valve works perfectly.

Last summer my father in law lent me a blow torch attachment for those little portable camping propane tanks. I liked it so much for starting our fires that I decided to buy one myself for camping this year. I saw a few of them listed on Amazon, but the other brands had questionable reviews. This brand was mostly positive and it was a bargain, so I ordered. I got my torch head today, and it's exactly like I wanted. Simple, on or off, light it up and there you go. A screw on torch heard that fits on those portable propane tanks. Worked just as I expected.
