I have had 2 other tow behind spreaders. Both are in the trash now. This spreader is so much better built than any of the others at 200 or less. Wish I bought this years ago. Chapin just makes solid equipment.

Quality product that will work for many seasons!

Have been using it to spread grass seed and Pasture mix and a horse Pasture. That’s a fairly harsh environment compared to a suburban lawn. Unit seems sturdy and fairly priced. I would buy it again. No problem recommending this.

This is a great product this is what I have been wanting. I have had several Ager-fabs junks. I love this spreader the stuff only comes out when your moving so you don't have it all over the driveway. I wish I had found this years ago.

Product well made and very sturdy. The spreader start/stop feature is very good. Looking forward to many years of easier lawn care

I bought this to use with my remote controlled lawnmower. So far it works fantastic.

After getting disappointed by cheaper spreaders over the years this is worth the money for my grass and pasture areas. Well built, crappy instructions to assemble but I figured it out any way. It really does not drop fertilizer when you stop, AMAZING!

I received the spreader today and immediately assembled it and put it to use spreading fertilizer on my 1.5 acres of Bermudagrass. I had been using a very old Agri-Fab tow behind spreader which needed to be replaced because the mechanism for manually starting/stoping flow was no longer working correctly and when I would attempt to close it the gate it would go full open and dump fertilizer and cause burnt spots on my lawn. I chose this spreader due to the automatic stop feature, the oversized tires, and the hopper design. The spreader does indeed stop flow when you stop your machine which is a very, very nice feature. The only downside is that you have to get off the machine to manually shut the gate for pulling it to a different area if you want to stop the flow of product while you are moving it. To me, this is a minor inconvenience that isn’t as much of a hassle as manually shutting off a spreader each time you just need to stop for a moment. I think the auto stop feature would be a must have feature for anyone pulling this with a zero-turn mower, an ATV or a UTV where a manual control leaver could not be reached from the operators seat. I don’t have a zero-turn mower yet, but I plan to get one so that was a big reason I chose this spreader. The tires are oversized and very nice. Most of the other spreaders that I looked at had narrow rounded tires. I like these tires because they seem more heavy duty and capable of actually carrying the rates capacity of 150 lbs of product. I like the hopper design because there are no flat spots in it. What a novel idea. Most of the other spreaders I looked at and the one I’ve bred using have flat spots where product would hang up and never make it to the chute. All of the fertilizer that I put in the hopper flowed out without me having to stop and put my hand in it to move it down towards the chute. There wasn’t a single piece of fertilizer remaining in the hopper when I got done. The capacity of the hopper is also great. I loaded it with 50 lbs of fertilizer each time and it handled it well. I could have probably fit another 50 lbs worth in the hopper, but I wanted to take it easy on her first time out. I also like the design of the auger. It actually agitates the product. It has a real impeller on it which works so much better than the thin spring like thing on some other augers. My only word of caution would be to make sure you have no hard clumps in your product because the nylon auger may get damaged. I like the fact that it came with a rain cover. I don’t have a sprinkler system, so every time I fertilize I have to wait until it is about to rain so that I am sure my grass won’t get burnt. Sometimes I wait too long and I end up getting caught in the rain. I didn’t have a rain cover with my old spreader and when the fertilizer would get wet it would turn into a big mess and not broadcast correctly. The last thing that I will mention is assembly. I saw reviews that said the instructions were not good, but I did not find this to be the case. If you take the time to read the assembly instructions instead of skimming them, you will have no problems. Anyone with the slightest amount of mechanical aptitude can put it together easily as long as you follow the instructions.
