Fixed aperture 200-500 mm at less than $1,500? Yes, please!!!
Very versatile, but a bit heavy and bulky. Tripod collar is solid and can be easily removed. Focus is great, even at night. For reference, I got several clear lunar shots at 1/500 of a second and 500 mm on my D750 - handheld! This is an FX lens, but it will work on a crop body (functions as a 300-750 mm). If you’re looking for an affordable and versatile full frame super telephoto, then look no further. If you don’t mind spending several thousand dollars for only marginal improvements gained from an f/4, a 150-600 mm, or a fixed 500 or 600 mm then, by all means. However, this f/5.6 lens fixed aperture (f/8 with a 1.4x teleconverter) is adequate for most needs. This particular kit also contains some usable items that complement this lens (see description) for only a modest price increase over buying the lens a la carte. Definitely a good buy if you’re just starting out.
