Fast, sharp, and gets the job done
I have both this and several Neato D7s. Why several? Because I've found that I like things to be vacuumed, but no matter how much I pay for the vacuum cleaners, most of them have a fatal flaw; they rely on me to actually do something. This one and the Neatos don't have that problem. This is the first iRobot product I've tried because while the round shape looks attractive, the main event is vacuuming, and that can best be done with a long beater brush. This S9 version has that due to the new D-shape, and actually has two of them. To test this, I sectioned off my kitchen. To do this, I used the rather large boxes it came in because it doesn't respect magnetic tape as a barrier, and it didn't include the type of barrier it does respect, the battery-powered virtual wall. I'm really surprised at least one wasn't included with this expensive product, so keep that in mind. It did a very good job. I mean, very good. It took a long time - almost an hour - but it was very thorough. It may have been less time had it mapped out the area first, which takes 4-5 times according to the minimal instructions. It was loud. I think this is a good thing. Heavy vacuuming is going to be loud due to the air movement. Having this thing quietly sashaying around my kitchen picking up next to nothing is not useful. I have a couple of raised gel pads in my kitchen that drive my Neato insane. The iRobot was unfazed. It just shifted into first gear and drove all over them. Impressive! (Refer to the pics for more information.) I thought it was strange that it doesn't have a handle or hand-hold for easily moving it around. The dust bin does, though, which is good. It did scare my cat, which the Neato also does, and ended my dream of having a viral video of my cat riding around atop it. (You can spot her in one of the pictures if you look closely.) Overall, this is an excellent product that cleans well and looks sharp doing it. At least at first. Mine is now rather dusty, but better it than me. Recommended.

A must have for the multitasker
Gets really close to corners, under cabinets and dishwasher. Side brush pulls debris from crevices/edges. Easy to train and can be controlled by Alexa. Has many functions and notifications. Let’s you know when full. User friendly, app is easy to use. Shows vacuum history and care and maintenance. Step by step guided. Best feature is it is great for pet owners. Really gets all that dog hair. Wife is sooo happy. Loves it. Upset that we didn’t get one sooner. Highly recommended.

Gets into those hard-to-reach places
I tried this out under my mother's bed, which she hadn't been able to clean in years. It got under there and got the whole area cleaned quite easily. It's a little complicated for someone older to set up, but it does everything it needs to even without all the apps set up. Makes picking up pet hair under furniture a snap! The only real problem with the Roomba is that it does have a difficult time getting onto very thick rugs or rugs which have been bunched up. So it might need a hand now and then. Otherwise, turn it on and watch it go!

A good Ai powered vacuum with a few drawbacks
In the past couple of decades, we have seen a couple of big innovations in the vacuum industry. The first is stick vacuums that companies like Dyson brought into the mainstream. The second, automated AI vacuums like this s9. Both are aimed at making the tedious chore of vacuuming less so. While I’ve owned and used stick vacuums, which are just a different form factor of the vacuums of old, I’ve stood on the sidelines when it came to AI vacuums because I always felt they weren’t ready for prime time. Having the s9 is my first foray into this segment of the market and I’m impressed with what iRobot has done. After charging the iRobot in its base and downloading the app from the app store I was ready to go. First of all, the s9 is far from perfect. The big drawback to using an automated system like this is that it’s not completely without frustration. First, you must make sure that you keep the path of the vacuum obstruction free. This is true for traditional vacuums as well but with traditional vacuums, the user is in control. The AI vacuum will just try to plow through regardless. Second, and this is an important warning, the s9 will have problems with medium and high pile carpets and maneuvering on them. I have a medium length carpet in my living room and in one corner, I have a speaker and magazine bin forming a 90-degree obstacle that the s9 gets stuck between. The thick carpet somehow prevents it from turning completely which prompts user intervention every time. That’s not the only spot that the s9 has problems in. You will definitely need to spot the problem areas the first time you run the s9 and try moving things in order for it to run trouble-free. Areas that you can’t do anything about you’ll have to buy an accessory that acts as an artificial barrier. It costs about $60 which can quickly add up if you have a lot of those areas. I don’t find the Roomba to be noisy compared to regular vacuums or stick vacuums. It’s actually less noisy than many of those. In addition, there’s a quiet mode that you can set on the app that will reduce the noise by some 60-70% which is crazy quiet. Of course, the suction will be commensurately reduced. You can even customize the noise/suction ratio in the settings to find a tradeoff that you like. The suction is surprisingly great. It picks as much dirt as vacuums 5 times its size. The great thing about it is that it produces almost no heat. I always hated vacuuming in the summer with my regular vacuum because of the amount of hot air it generates when in use. The Roomba exhaust is room temp air. I’m getting about 2 hours of run time per full charge on the Detailed Clean setting. I presume that it will run longer if you run it in the lower powered quite setting. One thing to keep in mind is that the s9 seems to do better after learning your rooms and obstacles so the more use it the faster it seems to accomplish the task. The Roomba comes with an extra brush and filter. I find that I need to empty the vacuum after every couple of runs. The vacuum is designed like the stick vacuums to hold the dirt directly with no bag so it does get a bit messy. I had to use a paper towel to clean out the bin. iRobot recommends that you wash it out occasionally. In terms of perishables, iRobot recommends that you replace the bin filter every 2 months ($33 for a set of 3) and the corner brush every 3 months ($22 for a set of 3). They also recommend replacing the multi-surface brushes ($40) and rear caster wheel (No price listed) every year. Finally, there are 3 buttons on the s9. Clean which starts the cleaning routine, Home, which returns the vacuum to its charging station, and Spot clean button which will vacuum in a spiral outward pattern for 3 feet and then spiral inward to end where it started. Overall, I like the freedom of not having to vacuum. It’s not perfect by any means since you have to intervene once in a while when it gets stuck, but it does mean you can do other chores not freed up by AI robots, yet. Pros: • Don’t have to manually vacuum • Can be quiet depending on the setting • Great suction power • Does a thorough job • Has enough power to vacuum 1,000 sq ft home after each charge Cons: • Expensive • Expensive replacement parts • Needs human intervention to get out of troubled spots • Need to keep area clean of obstacles • Emptying dust bin messy

Worth 1000??? Not sure.

My new best friend
I love this iRobot Roomba s9, and I don’t have an Alexa or any other device other than my smart phone and wifi. This vaccuum does the lionshare of the floor cleaning for me, on carpet, tile, hardwood, area rugs with tassels, and all the maintenance of keeping the dog hair down to a minimum. It can’t do my stairs, unfortunately, but it does my whole downstairs without falling off the step at the end of the hall. It is learning my house by mapping it every time it vaccuums. It does need maintenance, it does need the bin cleaned and the filter decluttered. The app is super helpful and gives me notifications when Roomba needs assistance, so great. This has seriously made my life a lot easier. My house is not open concept, and it still performs very well. Definitely recommend.

Huge upgrade over i7
I had the i7 before and the s9 is a big improvement. The higher suction is noticeable and with the redesigned rollers, a lot less hair gets stuck in the rollers. Still not 100% perfect and quite annoying that you need the virtual walls from iRobot in order to setup no go zones. Once iRobot allows for no go zones through the app it will be the best robot vacuum hands down.

This little guy works hard!
Jarvis (because, why not) and I became friends today, and I believe this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. After downloading the iRobot Home App, and allowing him to charge a bit, we got right to work. He cleaned carpets and linoleum with ease. I have quite a bit of furniture in my living room, but that was no challenge to Jarvis, he moved right along, cleaning his little heart out. I would highly recommend this product to anyone in the market for a robotic vacuum. It's easy to set up, easy to clean, and most of all, saves your back from traditional vacuuming!

Who doesn’t want to stop wasting their time vacuuming? Life changing!
Robot vacuums have been around for awhile now and despite all my family and friends adopting their own robot I’ve remained skeptical, not anymore! It works perfect for our family of 4 and one dog. She works for me in two ways 1. She vacuums my house for me while I watch her and 2. She makes me excited to pick up the toys and debris so I don’t have to vacuum. Set up is a breeze and only takes a few minutes. When you first cut her on and she is “mapping” your home she is steadily bumping into everything and she hardly gets anything done before her battery dies. This is where I thought I was right and it was too good to be true, but every time I ran her she got a little smarter and more efficient and bumped into less things. Finally after a few days she had mapped my whole house. She missed some room divisions, but it was very easy to fix it. The next step is naming the rooms. Now you will be able to tell Alexa to go clean specific rooms (you can also do it in an app on your phone). So if you spilled something instead of reaching for a broom you can keep doing what you are doing and tell Alexa to get Roomba (who you can rename) to do it. How amazing it that? You can even tell her if you want her to go over everything once or twice. How many days and what time you want her to vacuum. If you are headed to the store you can hit the button on the top and come back to a vacuumed house. What if you forgot to hit the button before you left? No problem she can be activated over WiFi through your phone app. The day that shiny new robot shows up on your porch just might be the last day you have to vacuum...let that sink in a minute. She does an excellent job vacuuming. I ran my high end vacuum before I turned her loose and was amazed at how much my old vacuum didn’t pick up. You can walk into a room and know if she’s vacuumed or not. What if your house is big and she can’t get it done before her battery dies? She just goes and charges herself and resumes vacuuming! That’s another amazing advantage, she keeps herself charged at all times so she is always ready. Now although she is almost perfect she does have some short comings. For us she gets stuck under one of our cabinets and has to be physically unstuck. You need to be home to unstick her so until you figure out any and all of your possible problem areas you need to be home while vacuuming. The dustbin is small, but holds more than I thought would have been possible. However, it does have to be dumped periodically. You can go in settings and have her continue to clean or you can set it up to stop and alert you that it is full, which is the option I chose. Dumping the dustbin can be more difficult as the dirt sticks to the filter. My old vacuum has now become my new Roomba filter cleaner. Sometimes she cleans corners awesome and sometimes not as well. Normally if you put it on two passes the corners get done. You do have to pick up cords, curtains, and bed skirts so she doesn’t get stuck. She can maneuver around dining room chairs but it takes her awhile. I move the chairs into another room for a quicker more thorough clean. It is on the loud side, but there is also an option for a quieter clean! When problems arise she sends you alerts in the app. I am so happy to welcome her to our family! She is by far my favorite toy and wouldn’t trade her for anything. I hope you decide to not waste your time vacuuming too! She is vacuuming twice as often as I was and I am happy happy happy!

3rd roomba of our family and by far the best!
My family has had a roomba 880,980, and now s9. The s9 takes it up huge level. The 980 was great but broke down and will not charge and always says it’s dirty. This just happened to be right on time with the new release! Pros: New design gets corners better Better battery life than roomba 980 2 hours sometimes 3 Empties itself if you have the home base Easy to clean Low maintenance Excellent mapping. App integration is amazing Cons: A little loud. Can get stuck sometimes Can not find home base every time. Parts can be expensive. If this helped please hit the thumbs up! :)
