Love my fried rice
Wow! This was my second taste test for this brand and they are 2 for 2 thumbs up. I researched for weeks before deciding that I would give Mountain House the first chance to convince me that their product was as tasty as they say and they didn't disappoint. These long term storage foods are not cheap and I was not interested in wasting my money on lousy food even though in a bad situation anyone including myself would be happy for a warm meal. Let's start out by complimenting them on the easy open package, no chemical smells, ease of preparation and the convenient resealable bag. Serving size of 2.5 was for me more like a 1.5 or 2 depending on whose eating it. One hungry guy, young or old, could consume one of these without a problem. I really think when these portions are measured the company is thinking rationing out to keep starvation at bay. No matter......its yummy and worth it.

Excellent product! Great tasting too!
I'm an OTR Truck driver here and I can tell you that Mountain House freeze dried foods are the best out here! Been driving for over 17 years and boy I wish I had these foods back in the day. Very economical and if you do the math on it each meal comes to around less than $3 per serving by buying the cans. You can't beat that out here. They say to use the opened can within 7 days, but I measure out for each day and put it in plastic bags and back in the can with the moisture pack and lid and it lasts well over a month before consuming. Chicken with Fried Rice and the Beef Stew are my favorites and the taste can't be beat. I also buy the cans for just in case also. Stock up and they last for over 30yrs. Ya never know.

Excellent for Emergency Preparedness, Though Quite a Bit of Salt
My interest in Mountain House foods comes from the aspect of emergency preparedness, not camping. Articles I've read recommend that you have a minimum of 1-3 months water and food. With that in mind, I evaluated the Chicken Fried Rice on these points: 1. Plus - This tastes very good. Though I was testing it in my kitchen, I poured the boiling water right into the pouch as you would if I was camping. The rice was soft but not mushy. 2. Minus – As with most prepared foods, this has a lot of sodium. One cup of the prepared rice has 600 mg of sodium. A whole bag, which is 2 1/5 cups, has a whopping 1500 mg. To quote the Mayo Clinic's website: "The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend limiting sodium to less than 2,300 mg a day — or 1,500 mg if you're age 51 or older, or if you are black, or if you have high blood pressure, diabetes or chronic kidney disease." I ate one bag for dinner as a one-dish casserole type meal. I was definitely full, so I wouldn't have needed to make the whole bag my meal. My point is, though, that as an emergency food, where you might not have fresh veggies to eat on the side, this Chicken Fried Rice has a lot of salt. 3. Plus – Ease of preparation is excellent. Just pour boiling water into the pouch and stir. Seal the pouch (it has a zip-like closure), wait 10 minutes, open and eat. 4. Minus – In a pinch, you can just eat this straight from the pouch, but it takes some knawing and it will make you thirsty. So you need not only potable water but very hot potable water. As almost all emergency-storage foods I've come across do need added water, I guess this is a sort-of minus. 5. Plus – If you're in an emergency and counting on your stored food, this seems like a great option. Good calorie count to give you energy – 260 calories per cup – and a decent amount of protein and saturated fat (no trans fat): In one cup, 8 g fat, 36 g carbs, 11 g protein 6. Plus – Long shelf life. The bag of Chicken Fried Rice I just purchased has a use-by date of November 2027. Contains milk, soy, wheat and egg A good choice for our emergency supplies. I'm trying more of the Mountain House brand supplies. Happy Reader

Great Chicken Fried Rice
The Chicken Fried Rice is delicious. It has legitimate chicken in it and tastes good. Preparation is as simple as adding boiling water. If you are looking for long-term storage and want to try the product without buying the big can, I would suggest trying the small packs because you can just add water to them, right in the pack. That way, you can know if you like it or not with a small investment. I've spent a lot of time researching survival food, and you can save some time and just stick with Mountain House. These #10 cans are great for long-term storage and, if you don't let them get too hot, will last for at least 30 years. I have had some in storage for 7 years so far and have tried them and they still taste great. When "it" "hits the fan," I know I will want comfort food that tastes good and this fits the bill.

Good taste, would definitely buy again
Great brand, but had not tried this chicken fried rice before. Was pleasantly surprised. It had a very good flavor, and certainly tasted like chicken fried rice. It does seem as though Mountain House directions are a bit off though, and their products always come out slightly on the soupy side. I would recommend that you put in slightly less water than what is called for. Overall, liked the product very much.

Really good stuff
I was quite pleased to see this in a #10 can. We've actually bought it in the packet style. We're already big fans of Mountain House. We live in the mountains, so we do keep a good bit of food on hand for when we get snowed in. We also camp, and it works great for that as well, if the fishing was a bust. All the emergency/camping food we have is by this company. We found it tasted the best and didn't have gross things in it or wads of salt. No fillers, no textured vegetable protein (TVP), just food, cooked well and freeze dried. You can make this in the can all at once, or scoop enough out for however many you need at the time. Shelf life is 25+ years, even longer if you can store it in a cool place.

Tastes good. Great for camping trips!
I myself have not eaten these. However, my son and husband do frequent remote camping trips and they are a hit with them. They love the taste of "real" food and only needing hot water to make on their own.. since they don't know how to cook much. I love that they can get a meal they can share for about $6. Throw in a piece of fruit and their good to go.

Delicous! One of my new regulars.
I love this flavor! Very hearty too. My tip? Bring a couple tablespoons of clean bacon grease in a sealed container and mix it on once it finished cooking! It may sound odd, but after a hard days hike, it helps keep you full and tastes great! Especially good for cold evenings around the fire!
