This products is great. We have Comcast as our provider and service is not good. I refuse to rent their router. My previous router was 6 years old and they kept blaming it on that.. Could not facetime or stream without trouble. I went to Best Buy to get their opinion and they wanted to sell me a separate router and a modem. Cost was over $200.00. Decided to use my prime acct. and check out an all in one router/modem and could not be happier with this product. I am not a tech person but setting this up was so easy. Since I set this up, a week ago, I have not been kicked off the internet or any trouble streaming. I saved well over $150.00 by purchasing this from Amazon.

We use Suddenlink and have been paying $20 a month to rent a modem/WiFi for a long time. A friend told me about Orbi, so I took the plunge and ordered the modem/WiFi + satellite. Pretty easy set up. Got ISP (Suddenlink) on the line and once they had the MAC address they activated my Orbi and it is awesome. Never had internet speed this fast. Satellite is easy setup once modem is running. Plug it in and wait 3 minutes. Expands network tremendously. ONE HUGE TIP: Rename to exactly your previous WiFi name and password. You won’t have to “update” passwords on any mobile phone, tablet, laptop or anything that was connected to previous WiFi. Big time saver. Once you are up and running, go into modem settings -) Advanced Mode. Rename.

Wow! I have spent untold hundreds over the years trying to get WiFi working throughout my older 2 story home replete with walls and rooms; while I certainly didn't relish spending another 400 bucks, desperation kicked in and I figured I would give it a try. With the ORBI system, I am getting a solid 200Mbps throughout every corner of the house, even the downstairs media room that I could never get a reliable signal. Finally I can cut the cord and not suffer through continual buffering errors. Very, very satisfied with this ORBI system.

I am an IT professional and I have a lot of experience with networking. Most of this kind of equipment is a major pain in the hindquarters to set up and manage. This equipment is only a very minor pain to set up and its performance is mostly as advertised. I'm favorably impressed. For those of you who care, it looks very good; a nice shape and color that should easily fit with your décor. You can purchase a clear acrylic shelf for it if needed. I bought one but sent it back because it did not come with mounting hardware. I'm glad I did so because I was not able to position the units as I initially planned. Placing the units such that I got the reception I wanted was a bit of a challenge but I did eventually manage. I placed the master unit near the center of my home. The satellite unit went into a corner of the TV room at the far end of the house; it's hard wired to the Roku and AirTV units. Everything else is wireless. The Amazon Fire unit works fine, even though it's mere inches from the satellite. My PC got decent reception with no external antenna and gets great reception with an external antenna. There are no discernible issues when simultaneously watching HD TV, Alexa playing music and downloading something on the PC. I recommend that you move the units around your home to find the best positioning. After each move, press the button to reconnect the satellite and master. If at all possible, you want to see both units displaying their blue lights of happiness (i.e. satellite displays yellow when it's not optimally placed and crimson when it's very unhappy). Then: 1) walk around the house with your phone and watch the number of Wi-Fi bars - you may have to stop and wait in each location because most phones need a moment or two to reregister reception and redisplay the reception bars; 2) Do the same thing with each device that you intend to use that displays reception level. If you have a laptop, run a speed test from various locations. It's going to take time (and quite a bit of schlepping) to find the best positions for the master and satellite units but it is worth it. The setup instructions are adequate and the management dialog is actually quite good. I like being able to tag my devices with a description. I did not mess around with any of the delivered settings because they are all reasonable for my needs. BEFORE you start pairing the first device, change the passwords for both the admin user and the Wi-Fi, especially the latter. Use 12 characters for maximum security and tape them to the bottom of the unit so that they don't get lost. IMPORTANT NOTE: This modem is approved by Comcast for their services of up to 400Mbs at the "mydeviceinfo" location of their site as "netgear-cbr40-647". They DO NOT approve it for their higher speed services. As far as I know, AT&T doesn't permit you to use your own modem. One final thought: I did not do this but I believe it to be possible to switch to this unit without changing all of your connected devices. I would suggest this only to a confident user with experience. Note the SSID (Network Name) of your existing Wi-Fi router and then turn it OFF. Change the SSID of the Orbi to match the existing SSID and change the Wi-Fi password to match that of your existing Wi-Fi network. I believe that that should work. I didn't do it because my existing Wi-Fi password was only 8 characters and I used this opportunity to strengthen it to 12.

Got my new netgear modem router and followed the easy instructions to get it hooked up. I have Comcast and it hooked up and activated right away but I still had to call Comcast to register it with them and deregister theirs. After that was done, it was all set, just had to reconnect my phone, tablet, laptop, smart tv's and Alexa but it went just fine. Speed is fast and all works perfectly. Why didn't I do this a long time ago??? I am retired and try to stay on top of the tech in our home but this was no problem if you have some basic knowledge and follow the directions.

I love my C7800, SO MANY OPTIONS!!! I'm such a happy camper... Why I love it: WIFI RANGE IS INSANE! No repeaters needed Can create OWN cloud services (http and FTP accessible) as large as USB drive allows Performs as Media Server Allows hidden SSID Can disable any additional connections Many more options that I have yet to play with Other models Alexa compatibility Cloud Storage CAUTION Be aware of 2nd hand equipment being sold as new. The manufacturer will be able to tell you if you have a used or refurbished item. The first one I bought apparently was. It is well worth the cost.

I recently inherited my father's house and I brought along my old Arris router/modem when I moved in. I started having a bunch of issues with my internet so I purchased this combo unit in the hopes it would cure what ailed me. I tried installing it but someone had previously purchased it and reset the password to something other than the default and I couldn't connect. So I had the cable company come out to look at my lines and it turned out that my father had way too many connections running off the junction box so I was losing my internet signal. The nice guy fixed that and then noticed that my router/modem wasn't capable of delivering the speeds I was paying for. So I showed him this unit and explained the password issue. Sigh... He stuck a paper clip in a hole in the back of the darn thing and it reset it itself back to defaults. I felt so silly but I was so glad I hadn't initiated the return process. He was nice enough to get it installed for me and it was super fast and easy. He literally plugged it in, hooked up the cable line, called over to the home office and read off the serial number on the back of the unit and I was in business. I went from having a max of 150-200 Mbps to now having OVER 480 Mbps. It's amazing! And the modem is so easy to use and care for. When you log in for the first time, it prompts you to set up your password recovery questions. Other than that, you don't need to do much else to use it out of the box. I'm so happy I spent the extra money and purchased this one. The app is very easy to use as well. All in all it is a great buy!

So I've always been contemplating the switch from having to rent a cable modem router to owning one and never really went all in until this purchase. Yeah, it takes a some time to get your return back but it goes by pretty quick when you think about it. I mean I started thinking about it years ago..... So I'd say about a year ago I did try when I saw a deal on an ARRIS Surfboard SBG6580 (certified refurbished). I paid somewhere around $76 with tax and thought I could make this back in less than a year considering I pay $11 and some change a month renting a unit from Xfinity. It was a bit of a hassle getting it registered as I had to call Xfinity and provide them with key pieces of information specific to the router to get it activated. Got it activated and noticed the speeds were horrendous despite it's advertised properties. It's been awhile now so I can't say specifically what it's speed was but only that it was going way slower than the rented unit from Xfinity. So needless to say I said screw it and returned the ARRIS unit and stuck with the rented one. In all honesty, it may have been that it was a refurbished unit but if it says certified then in my mind it should run like new. Fast forward to present day and I though I'd give it one more go. Started to do some research and found the Netgear N600 C3700 cable modem router combo. Saw that it was in a whole bunch of various top 10 lists for lower to mid end ranged units and went for it. Setup was a breeze as all I did was hook it up via ethernet to my laptop and inputted the required information. Activation was almost immediate and I was off an running within 10 minutes of unboxing it. Note to those of you who don't have a laptop or computer with ethernet connection availability, you'll have to do it the old fashioned way and call up your provider for activation. This is for Netgear products, can't say the same for other brands as I don't have experience on others aside from ARRIS, which at that time I don't recall there being a direct ethernet option. Well, same story, I was getting horrible speeds over wi-fi in the range of 5-20 mbps download and maybe 1-2 mbps upload. If I was in the same room near the router I would be on the higher end of the spectrum but as soon as I went to another room it would drop off in speed significantly. So this time around I though I'd just scrap this unit and go for a higher end expensive unit. Did some more research and found the Nighthawk. Read all sorts of positive reviews on this unit and I can confidently say this thing rocks! Setup was no different than the other N600. Plugged it directly into my laptop via ethernet and followed the steps. Did numerous tests over a few days and speeds are at a constant 53 -56 mbps download and 5.78 -5.95 mbps upload. My service level from Xfinity is 60 Mbps download and 6 up so this thing is right on target. I moved around to different areas of my house and experienced very little to no speed variations. So long story short, everything about this unit is excellent. Simple set up, blazing speeds with little to no drop with distance (strong signal), options for multiple wi fi's, small footprint and extremely light. It's not built like a tank but what does that matter as it's not like you're going to be moving it around on a daily basis or even interacting with it at all for that matter once it's installed. I liked the fact that it's sleek looking, small, and light. I have to say that when it comes to cable modem routers, it's best to fork out a little more and go high end because you really do get what you pay for. It may be a tad expensive at ~$180 + tax but it's damn worth every penny. Now instead of paying myself back from having to rent a unit in 6 months I'm at more like 16 months but time flies so who really cares?

I was nervous about this purchase and installation (being over 70 years old) as I have little technical knowledge and fewer skills. However, simply following the guidance on the app I was able to install the Orbi and have everything up and running in about 15-20 minutes. The improvement was dramatic with download speeds increasing from about 60 Mbps to 125 Mbps. I could not be happier with the Orbi Whole Home WiFi system.

So why did I get another C7800 when the first one cooked in two months? Because (1), when it works its a beautiful thing and (2) I defeated the overheating. Read on. I have a 4K streaming TV, 3 ipads, 3 iphones, 2 printers and one laptop; all in a 1500 sq ft. house with a very high upstairs. I needed power, without extenders, for upstairs/patio. And I needed 2.4g (ch.1) for TV/printers and 5g (ch.163) for devices. To drive the load, I have Cox Gigabast; this is the one modem/router combo that can handle 2.4g/5g simultaneously, for so many devices operating at once. My first C7800 cooked from overheating; I had a real hassle with warranty people, but I got new C7800 in two days without sending the old one back for 10 days, rather than delivering the old C7800 up-front and waiting (I had to pay $29 for this). It was worth it. To defeat the overheating I bought a Havit HV-2015 15.6-17 laptop fan mated to an OPOLAR 4 inch mini-usb fan. I simply placed the C7800 on top of the Havit and placed the OPOLAR to the side of the unit to blow any topside hot air away from the cabinet I have the system in. Now, it's cool...even in Las Vegas. No dust, either. Speed: (5g) 280 mbps for devices, 230 mbps for beat-up laptop; (2.4g) 92 mbps for TV and printers. You'll never get 1G wireless...that's a fact. I'm happy with the speeds I have now versus what I used to have...night and day.
