Exactly what I expected of enterprise hard drives: fast, hot, loud. I bought five 8TB drives for a RAID 10 and after spinning things up, they made me laugh and smile as they remind me of 10k-15k rpm SAS/SCSI drives I used to run in data centers. Testing on linux with md RAID 10 and dd, getting sustained 400 MB/s reads so can't complain. For anyone commenting on warranty, only buy from Amazon. If you're buying from third parties, you're gambling and wasting your time.

Added review: After using the item for about a month, there were a few things I noticed about this 'Exos' lineup of drives. 1) You can safely register them at Seagate to claim your warranty, for the 14tb and 16tb versions at least. That was the case for me, and I bought from SaberPC and Global Silicon. It may be different for other sellers. 2) They are a bit loud compared to the Barracuda lineup. if you are using a hard disk dock that exposes the drives for instance, you might even think there's something wrong going on inside the drives when you copy a ton of files around a TB or so. Almost like getting a 'kick' once a few seconds. 3) The heat is extreme, particularly for the 16tb model, not so much for the 14tb. Still, the prices on Amazon are definitely a no-brainer. Where I live, the 16TB Barracudas go for a bit over $700. I can stand a bit of noise and heat for the extended warranty and over 40% discount. Original review: Bought mine from SaberPC. My drive arrived in a paper box(not a retail box like most of the Barracuda lineup). But it was factory-sealed and much cheaper than their suggested price so I won't complain. The drive provides 14901GBs of free space, which sounds about right if you divide it by 1,024 three times. I've read in Seagate's official forums that the Exos drives are their top-tier, enterprise grade drives, so I will be using it with a peace of mind.

Update Dec. 4, 2019: The drive is still working OK in the enclosure mentioned below, accessed perhaps every few days. I use it for travel with a MacBook Air (older model that has USB 3.0 ports). I did notice the drive clicks and clacks quite a bit in use (which I assume is not the fault of the enclosure I've placed it in). Still happy with it. Original review: Just received today (early November 2019), installed to the enclosure mentioned below, formatted on iMac, partitioned into 4 drives. All working fine for now though screw holes did not line up perfectly with the sled in the enclosure (two did, two did not). I wish all drives from all manufacturers had the same screw-hole arrangements. As I wish we didn't have 17 different USB and USB-C/Thunderbolt plugs to decipher. But I digress. This 16TB drive is working fine with the following enclosure (despite the headline only claiming 10TB compatibility) in case you want to do like me and take it on the road: RSHTECH Hard Drive Enclosure USB 3.0 to SATA Aluminum External Hard Drive Dock Case

3 drives bought from "Serverpartdeals" arrived in very good packaging specifically designed for up to 6 hdds. On my Windows 10 Pro system (plugged into a SATA add-in card in my 12+ year old motherboard) all were immediately recognized, checked out as having no issues with Seatools. I put them into Windows Storage Server "simple" grouping (3 column raid zero which has to be set up via Powershell, it will just be JBOD if setup via the GUI) and are currently performing as expected. With 3 drives I'm seeing ~580 MBps read/write sequential.

I bought 8 of these for a NAS. They are great for the purpose and I was able to buy them for less money than an IronWolf drive of the same size -- despite the fact that these Exos drives have a better warranty and better performance.

I read a few reviews of people getting OEM drives that did not have the standard warranty with at least one person saying SabrePC DID have a 5 year. So I paid a whole 3 cents more and got it from them. I checked the SN with Segates site and it shows a 5 year warranty. There isn't a lot to say about a hard drive these days it performs exactly as I expected and time will tell how long it lasts. The only thing I did notice was the mounting screws to mount from the bottom, two lined up with my drive bay slide but the other two did not. I left like that and just hooked it up and formatted it. 14.5 TB after formatting with NTFS and that is to be expected with any hard drive. Time will tell but so far I am very happy with it.

I upgraded a QNAP NAS using 8 of these drives and have been pleased with the results. I went from 8x10TB to 8x16TB and the process involved rebuilding the array after each drive was replaced, which took about a week (17 hours per drive). At this time, these drives are less costly than comparable IronWolf series drives, which is surprising given that they perform better, and are considered higher quality (hence the “Enterprise” moniker). I hope this review helps you make an informed purchasing decision...

I got these about a year ago... and so far, no bad sectors. Actually I have 4 of these drives, and no problems so far. The only problem I have is writing over the data a second time is pretty slow. I will not likely get any more of this kind of drive. I am waiting for the new double movable head drives with better writing technology, and higher capacity. The shingling technology is not such a good technology... and that's why I will not be getting more of these drives, even though I need more of them. I am just temporarily storing my data on multiple older drives until the new technology is more mature. And the drives are over 20 Gb with out shingling platens technology. Too slow to write.

I couldn't wait for the 20TB drives to be out so I ordered this. The HDD was tested for errors and passed. Write speed out of the box is 261Mb/s ; read is 264Mb/s And of course you won't get an actual 16Tb storage, you'll get 14.5TB estimately

Purchased 3x 12 TB drives from serverpartdeals and warranties good through May 2024 on Seagate website. All tested good (StableBit Disk scanner) and populated easily in Drivepool. Massive size and I'll be switching out more over the next few months.
