Easier to Use Than You Think
My kitchen knives were a huge investment that I want to have for a lifetime and even pass down to the next generation when the time is right. To make that happen proper care is extremely important over the years to maintain their performance and beauty. That means one must send out their knives periodically for sharpening or have a method at home that can give the same factory edge as when it came home straight out of the box. I prefer to have that edge without all the hassle and expense of a sharpening service, which is why I chose this Dalstrong whetsone set for my kitchen. One of the major reasons I chose this lit was because of the size of the sharpening stones. They are much larger than most on the market for home use and allow me to sharpen everything from a small paring knife to a large butcher knife with ease. You receive an attractive acacia wood non-skid base to hold your coarse grit (1000#) and fine grit (6000#) stones in place during the sharpening process. That slight elevation off the counter keeps your work closer to your body center making it much more ergonomic and comfortable to use. The kit also comes with a rust eraser that works with just a few quick swipes over the blade. This will keep your knives looking like brand new, as even the best quality knives will occasionally get these spots on them. This set is very user friendly. We all know that the safest knife is a sharp knife. While it does take practice, once you get your whetstone technique down, this is simple and easy to do. Just make sure to soak all of your stones for at least 5-10 minutes, or until all of the air bubbles disappear from the water. I did a video to show you how easy the stones actually are to use once soaked properly. The set is well thought out for ease of use, safety and beauty. The "wow" factor upon opening your new set does not disappoint, so if you are looking to give this as gift, you can be confident that the recipient will appreciate your choice. In my opinion, this set is worth every penny I spent and then some.

Very large sharpening surface
I own a fairly large quantity of knives by Dalstrong. I find them sharp and beautiful. Yet, I was reluctant to buy the sharpening stones because of the quite steep price (you can get a reasonable double-sided stone for about one third of the price of this set). I was convinced to try after viewing a good number of videos displaying the different qualities of sharpening stones and the various sizes! One of my pet peeves when sharpening is that the stones are too small and create a risk to sharpen your blades unevenly (especially without guide). The larger the stone, the less chances you have to get it wrong, especially for small blades, like pocketknives or paring knives. Onto the Dalstrong sharpening stones review: Here is what I like about them: - These stones are large! See the pics attached when compared to standard stones. - 2 separate stones (one for 1000 grit and the other for 6000) - Nice wood base (Acacia) - Nice presentation case (a bit overdone for sharpening stones) - 2 more stones provided: one for rust removal (what rust? I never had rust on Dalstrong knives), the other one to make the stones flat again (Nagura stone). - I got my knives to be razor sharp, almost for the first time! (with the help of a leather strop) Here is what I like less: - 1000 grit to 6000 is a bit jump… I think I miss an intermediate 3000 grit. - The flattening stone is not big enough. If I am correct, to ensure perfect flat surface, the flattening stone should be larger than the sharpening stone (it is much smaller) - Dalstrong is exaggerating when it claims a 2x surface when compared to the competition. Check the pics, the beige one is my older stone and the rust one is the Dalstrong. It is clearly not twice as large. In conclusion: I do not regret this acquisition at all. It is true that it makes all the other sharpening stones I own a bit useless now. I love the fact that I can sharpen the whole blade of small knives at once. 5 stars.

i can't believe this set cost 80 bucks
when i recieved this set in the mail i brought them into work the next day and they work and feel the same as the head chefs super expensive japanese stones. Plus the are quite a bit larger and come with a very high quality holder

Beautiful set if stones
Great set of sharpening stones, beautiful packaging and I love that they include a nonslip wooden base. Also included are a rust remover and a flattening stone.

Very Nice Sharpening Stones
The quality of the stones can't be beat and it came in a massive presentation box. The stones are not cheap. I suppose you are paying for the fancy box & presentation but the components inside are top quality. The wood base for the stones is very useful and doesn't slide on the counter/bench even when wet. My only wish was that they also had a kit including their 400 grit stone. 1000 is just too fine and too slow for bringing back a really dull knife. As for ease of use. It still takes skill and practice to effectively sharpen knives by hand. The large size of these stones makes sharpening large knives easier but there is no replacement for practice and experience.

These stones are huge
The two main stones are huge. Way larger than any whetestone i've seen before. They make sharpening quite easy

Really nice set of stones!
Love the presentation and quality of the stones. Haven't used them yet but the feel and how fine the grains are tells me the knives will be polished very cleanly. Update: After using the 8000 grit stone, my knives have a very smooth geometry that I made on the edge. Most stones makes a curved geometry, these makes a straight surface. Even after trying it on my katana edge, I can clearly see a smooth cutting surface compared to cheap stones from hardware stores. Bottom line: I would love to buy another set just for presentation but fundings are limited.

HAND’S DOWN TOP OF THE LINE!
I spent way more time than I should have researching which knife sharpening kit I should get. First I got sharp pebble, which is not a bad choice at all, but if you want the top of the line. Look no further. Dalstrong by far exceeds all of my expectations and I don’t think I will order any set other than Dalstrong from now on. The packaging was incredible, which also serves as storage when not in use. The base is made of an elegant dark acacia wood and the blocks are almost double in size of most brands out there, not to mention single blocks, which is great if you have ever used a block to the bitter end. This set has it all and more. Take my advice, if you are looking for one of the best, you have found it. Sharpening my knives is a meditation for me, so I take it very serious.

Just what I was looking for!
I trained as a meat cuter after the Army and have been looking for this type of set up since then. The whole set up is beautiful and packaged perfectly for keeping all the contents prefect. Used right away, after following the directions, and the performance of my knives was so so sweet.

What an experience!
These whetstones come in such a beautiful packing, so you start with a very pleasant experience and it follows from there, the whetstones work great .. I am so happy I ordered those as opposed to some cheaper options. After this fantastic first experience I went ahead and ordered some more Dalstrong products, all of them are equally fantastic. Highly recommended!
