inexpensive quality product works well
3/16 tubing is the most difficult to double flare . this tool works well providing the tubing is perfectly straight where it goes through the die. the tube end must be cut squarely and the inside of the tube deburred . if the tubing is crooked or not cut squarely the die will push it off to one side as it is compressed . this is true of even the more expensive tools of this design. there are other tools that are designed differently and are more forgiving but they are quite expensive.

Works great on copper!
I bought this to make double flares on 3/8" OD copper tubing. I read a lot of reviews on this item and many others. Many of the one star reviews were due to the tube slipping, it leaving marks or the tool breaking. This is NOT a professional tool. This is NOT for making hundreds of double flares. Remember, you get what you pay for. If you want a professional tool, spend the money. This is a DIY tool. I would say it may not work as well with Stainless steel as copper. This definitely works great with copper. Before you make your flare, deburr the inside and outside of the tube. Use some sandpaper and or a deburring tool. A little bit of oil may help as well. Just do not use so much After you make your flare, you will need some light grit sandpaper to remove any burrs, scratches and impressions left by the tool. I would definitely purchase this with copper. It makes great flares. I had no problem with splitting and cracking. Take your time. Don't just screw it down and crush the tube. Good luck!

Well made tool
The directions for use are opaque. However if you practice and pay attention to how far the tube protrudes from the holder you can turn out nice work. Tightening and operations can leave you with sore hands. A bench mounted vise is a big help.
