Worth it
Within 30 minutes I had my first item made with this machine. I chucked the software away and use K40 Whisper to run the laser and Inkscape to design the files. I quickly learned a lot on how to use this laser and one key item was finding the laser's focal height. I regularly cut 3mm plywood and MDF. I took the exhaust cone out of the cabinet to give the full area the laser can be used. I would highly suggest the air injector type head to prevent flare ups when working with wood.

Good Quality. Bring a little DIY also.
Overall good so far. Took a bit of figuring out, but is working well. Install the software, and the USB is a product key. So it needs to be inserted into the computer to have license to use the engraver. Online tutorials helped. Will update more later.

Not perfect but the best available for the money
I think you have to approach this product for what it is. Yeah, there were definitely some corners cut and it's a littly janky, but you have to remember you're using a laser for $400 when your options for the next step up usually cost more than a grand. Sure, some of the electronics are a little wonky and a few components are cheap but . . . it's a $400 laser. I've had a ton of fun starting to make cuts so far. My biggest issue with following the included instructions (both the manual and the videos included on a CD disk) centered around lining up the laser mirrors. I had to reach out to Orion for support and they answered my question quickly and were very friendly and helpful. You have to ensure the three mirrors are properly aligned so the laser beam bounces around and comes out of the head appropriately. The process is a bit fiddly and between that and setting up the fan, water, etc., total setup took over an hour. Once it was set up, though, the results have been pretty fantastic. Now I'm learning more about the software, etc. and I'm surprised at the great results I'm already getting. One area of opportunity: it'd be great if they included a frame and measuring rulers for the total engraving area. You can figure it out using the software and moving the head around, but giving us measurements off the bat would be a great way to make lining up things easier. Still, I'm shocked I'm getting results like these from a "bargain basement" engraver. This is the best laser you can get for $400.

Great Value
This machine worked perfectly right out of the box. The fan designed fan is integrated into the box. The only short coming is the software, which is freely available online.

Good
It works great. I use it to make jewelry and engrave wood. Can get very detailed as long as you make sure mirrors are aligned. Better to use k40 whisperer than the included software though.

If you know what you are doing, this is great
So this is complicated. Is it a good machine, if you know what you are doing then yes. Is it 40ish watts, yes will it cut metal, if you are asking this you need to do much more research and this is NOT the machine for you, at least not now IF you want a turnkey machine that you can just turn on and start cutting your end product, then you don't understand laser cutters and certainly not this one can you see the laser beam when it is on NO! you can go blind is there an interlock that will turn off the laser if you open the working chamber? NO! you can go blind If you understand the basics of lasers and have researched the subject and truly figure things out that are inherently dangerous, then this could be a good choice for you. Is it a basic laser cutter? Yes. Is it about 40watts? I can't measure it but I am pretty sure yes. are the mirrors pretty good? nope, covered in oil and scratched you will hear lots about analog and digital power meters and honestly it does not matter IMHO. do you really care if it take 0.15mA or 25% power to cut leather that is 4mm thick and black? IMHO not really. I do care that when I put the same material or close to it that I can set the power to a level that works, I really do not care what number that is. That's just me, but you know it is me so ya I am happy with % power If you have a good tech or are one then yes you can use this for production. You may want to upgrade the controller to get crisper images and curves. This is a basic CO2 "lowerish" power laser cutter/engraver. believe anyone that tells you that you need more power to do what you want. If you want to put production mater into the box, push a button and get out your final product- well dream on NOTHING works that way. You will always need to know what you are doing. I bought it and am very happy with it. I am not questioning that I should have bought another form someone else. Know what you want to cut or engrave, know if this is enough power to do that, be ready to tweak the setting to get the best possible results and then go for it. This can be made to work, the questions is can you make it work.

This is WAY awesome!
This is so amazing. We need to have Chinese appreciation week. It came nicely packed and was delivered with free Prime shipping to Hawaii in three days. I set it up, turned it on, and zip-zap it worked beautifully! I used the LaserDRW program that comes with it. without CorelDRAW. If you are scared by bad reviews you are missing out. There's a little bit of a learning curve. But, hey, it's a laser. There is plenty of documentation from people online who have figured it all out. An online store has a lot of accessories designed with this model in mind. I used acrylic the first time. A piece of it came with it. Then I tried 1 mm Delrin (acetal) and promptly made a hole (instead of a grid array) which caught on fire. I was able to blow it out after I removed the piece. So when they say get a fire extinguisher and add the extra ground wire, do what they say. Now I am working on learning how to set the power and speed to make the best cuts. Enjoy! P.S. Don't lose the dongle! It's the small USB flashdrive looking thing. It protects the LaserDRW software and the laser won't work without it. The air blower is weak and it gets stinky when cutting polycarbonate and certain other plastics. A bolt in the air blower was missing its nut and fell out so I had to fix it before setting up the laser. No big deal. I am going to upgrade the air blower with these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F6BL11U https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003NE59HE

Great Item, Work Perfect. Thanks.

I wish I had two of them!
The laser came ready to use as soon as I got it out of its well packed box...it was aligned and was able to cut without any issues. the only thing I would change would be to have ammeter installed as you can't tell what power the laser tube is actually firing at.
