Old School Cobalt Rocks!
I Purchased this 1/2 x 1/2 x 6 HSS with cobalt as it was the go to when making a carbide tool would be more time consuming or costly. I hand ground the tool until I had a 40 degree angle point as I have been doing for 40+ years, then finished with a diamond hone. Once in place, it cut a Poly-V groove into the 5" dia. 6061 T6 alum like butter- Keep the cutting oil flowing too! Choosing the 6 inch tool bit insured it would be held more securely in the tool post holder. 5 stars.

Works good
High speed steel used to remove inner weld from square tubing. You can cut it with a cutoff wheel, it tears up bandsaw blades easily

Very handy
This is M35 cobalt HSS. If you need higher heat tolerance I suggest M42, but for what I needed this worked very well.

Economic
I’ve been using these for years and I like the idea of being able to resharpen them over and over. In some cases they work better than carbide inserts.

Performs well
Just ground one of these into a RH tool and turned the rusty crust off of a 1.5" diameter mystery-metal steel shaft. Edge held up well. Grinds and hones well. Seems to be high quality, at least for a hobbiest.

High Quality HHS tool blanks
I make custom shaped tools for o-ring grooves internal and external, as you cannot always find a carbide cutter with changeable cutters in the shape or orientation you need.

It's seemingly fine HSS and it'll cut fine if you grind it right.
It's high speed stell of the appropriate dimensions.. I think it's good. But who knows how it compares to something like Mo-max Cobalt..
