Uniden PRO520XL CB Radio's ARE GREAT!!!
I've owned about 5 of these things and I always leave them in the truck I'm selling. So, I've had my current truck awhile but I'm installing these PRO520XL in it this coming weekend. Only complaint is, for it's compact size, which allows all kinds of places to install it in, I know there's room inside the unit itself to add Weather Channels (NOAA) I'm sticking with this radio because of the price #1...#2 it's always performed as advertised with no problems at all. Transmitting distance, with a CB Radio, ANY CB Radio depends on a multitude of things like, mountains, windy roads, elevation ("skip" is fun when you're on the top of an especially big/tall mountain, especially when it's the flat desert for hundred's+ of miles on the other side...Talked to MANY MANY folks from all over the SE, East, NE and I especially like "conversing" the Louisiana/Georgia area States. Man, those guys have accents that just won't quit and especially unique stories to tell...Like a different world over there and I want to visit it before I'm dead and gone and you just gotta love it! Thanks Uniden for keeping me posted while driving, and at home too! And, almost around the world. I started CB'n back in my late teens (16 once I got a license to drive...) and because I've used my CB in many occasons o an emergency, for usually less than $100, you can fire a CB up in your vehicle, talk to the truckers on your trip and just have peace of mind. You might think you're OK with just your cell phone...Uhmmmmm, ever been driving in areas where there is no cell signal, basically a NO CELL ZONE??? I rescued a family of 5 in a NO CELL ZONE in the mountains at 11pm. Car just stopped and it was about 40 degrees outside. Parents had 3 kids ranging from 7-12. Couldn't use my Verizon Cell so I fired up my Uniden PRO520XL and after a few minutes, I finally picked up a guy who lived in Georgia. The State of GEORGIA! I was just outside of Bend, OR, just a couple THOUSAND miles away rom the guy who answered my "May Day" Call...GEORGIA!!! Had a good clear signal so he took my info of where we were, approx. how many miles we were up on a specific mountain road and gave him my cell number too. What he did was call the local Bend, OR sheriffs' office, about 30 miles away from where "The Family" and we were. The police then relayed the message to a AAA towing company located in Bend, and within a little over an hour, up the road a AAA Towing Truck finally came! Family Saved!...We were there for about 2+ hours total, but it was great to be able to help this family. Literally, the "Dad" told me he was going to go buy a CB for his SUV and one for his motor home too as soon as he gets back home to Portland. Not only are CB's great in emergency's like this (Cheap insurance against a possible tragedy...) they're fun too. I also use mine when caravanning with a few of my friends who have CB's while driving together on our way to a camping or fishing destination. Easily coordinate Pee breaks! And, they're just plain fun, convenient too and you get quality at an affordable cost. PLUS, they're very very easy to install! Ken J. Nehalem, OR.

NO MORE STATIC... here's why..
When I first set this up in my Xterra I used the 18 foot coax they recommend and the cigarette/12v socket adapter, The power & ground wires were really short not even 12 inches because the radio was so close to the socket I was able to cut all the wire and then solder together. I thought it was the best way to get no static. But I had alot of static just sitting there and hitting the gas, so I ordered a 12 foot coax instead of 18 foot and i ran a ground wire to the back of my radio mount and the power to a add a fuse . Look at pics.. the wire are about 3 feet now it's all soldered together and I have almost no static at all. I never thought it would of worked. Channel 9 has none at all. Channel 19 has suck a little bit and sometimes none.. just keep in mind I was able to use a 12 foot coax because my antenna is on the front of my truck on the brush guard. I have a 3 foot fire stick with the spring for antenna and the radio works very good. Some truckers I talked to were surprised I was using this radio because it was coming in so good.. so it's not your radio it's the way its hooked up. Also my RWS meter is at 0.3 at lower channels and 1.7 at higher channels..

Great radio for the money.
I contemplated on this CB for months. I couldn't decide if i wanted a full size CB for the features or save space and weight and sacrifice. Turns out, this little radio kicks some serious butt. I really got the best of both worlds. It doesn't have a few features like roger beep or Noise Blanker or the built in SWR meter but it does have ANL that seems to work excellent. I thought that i would get a noise cancelling mic but the little mic that comes with it is truly a nice one as i get many "loud and clears" when talking to others. I wired it up using a cigarette lighter plug, which isn't the most ideal power source, but i get very low noise and i like the convenience. I'm currently using this radio with a Wilson Lil Wil magnetic antenna and I'm getting SWR's just a tad over 1 to 1. Overall, I didn't have to sacrifice at all. This radio has all the features that i would need for backwoods communication and i even saved a little money in the process. Highly recommend.

Great device even better for the price
I was very surprised when I install this in my wife jeep. Very easy to place almost anywhere in your vehicle. We placed it on the glove box. And it was still out of the way. Very powerful. You can pick up even farther out with the RF knob that comes with it. We have a hustler white antenna with it. Tuned it with an srw or SWR meter. This thing works so well it's better than my bigger CB in my big truck. I'm thinking of picking up another one of these to put in my pickup truck. Again very impressed. Plan on buying another one.

Buy it...been doing CBs for 35 years...this little one is a gooder.
Seriously great little CB...with some bigger CB functions. LIKES: - Small/compact. I use this in the center console of my '14 Silverado. Works great! - RF gain control. Didn't think I would use/need this...boy was I wrong. In a noisy washed out environment...comes in handy - No beep-beep-beep crap unlike the big Uniden I have. No sounds when switching between channels or pushing buttons - PA output and switch. Absolute kickass fun scaring dogs, deer, cats, kids, or broadcasting something funny with a horn speaker - Microphone. Looks cheap and flimsy. DON'T go out and replace it. This mic is really good and works well. I had a noise canx mic...this one works better. - Speaker output - I USE THE MOST. Go get you a small high quality CB ext speaker at a truck stop...and plug it in. DISLIKES - Might be "too compact" for folks with big fingers. - Old school LED display is hard to see in the daylight...excellent at night tho. - Speaker power out could be a bit better with some type of tone control - Wx function would have been nice OVERALL - Tuned VSR to 1:1 with my Firestik antenna on my pickup. Used high quality coax. CB system is 100% good. Talk is strong, Rx is excellent. Lots of good stuff in such a small package. Buy it.

Likker little unit works as avertised and does it well
My second CB radio. I must say for what I use it for it is perfect. It is loud and Clear with a tuned Antenna like my MOST highly recommended Firestick. Very easy to use, Is very small and compact, Easy install and Setup. You can be up and running quickly with this device. It was purchased as my backup CB for my Jeep but instantly became my primary while off road. You want small, loud, clear and economical????? BUY THIS

PRO505XL
Simple compact CB radio. I’ve had the PRO505XL for 5 years and never had an issue. My first one was stolen out of my Jeep and for the price and satisfaction I had with the first one I didn’t hesitate to buy it again. I didn’t even shop around when I saw amazons price on it. I’ve paired it with a k30 antenna and also a firestik firefly and have found RX and TX to be clear with both setups. The only thing I wish it had is NOAA weather, but again for the price I got over it. The small form factor and simple controls allow for it to fit in most any vehicle and be manipulated without taking eyes off the road(mostly squelch). I’ve had it in a dodge neon center console bottom pocket and now it lives above my rear view mirror between my Jeep Cherokees visors. If your considering this for a smaller vehicle, first radio, or just want a cheap CB solution this will fit the bill.

Basic, simple, and bulletproof.
I needed a CB radio in my work truck for yard communication, so I went with this. I've been a truck driver for 24 years, so of course I have a big radio that has been modded, but those require fiddling to get them to work correctly. Now that I'm doing local work, I just don't have time to mess around with it. This radio, with an 18 foot coax cable, and a basic Francis fiberglass whip antenna is simple, cheap, and works every time. No hassle at all.

Awesome radio for cheap.
I added a PA speaker and noticed 2 things. 1. When the switch is on PA it will send all CB transmissions out to the PA speaker, my solution is to turn the squelch all the way up to prevent unwanted sound coming out of the PA. 2. The CB to PA switch itself acts up. Sometimes I have to wiggle it in order to use the PA speaker. Not a big deal considering the overall price of the unit. I can still yell at people in traffic.

This is the best of the cheap CB radios
I've owned many CB radios and am also a licensed amateur. I dug out my old 10m antenna that I'd previously used way back for CB use and immediately found that I still had a practically motionless SWR. This little radio fit great in my newish pickup. There were lots of options on placement. The "ANL" switch completely eliminates engine noise. I'm impressed that it has an "RF Gain" knob. However - if you're more of a listener than a transmitter, you'll find that you spend most of your time with this knob turned 3/4 to full. If you put it on zero then the person you're listening to must be two feet away, I assume. Still, this knob is 100% worth the cost of the jump from model 510 to 520. The box says "Designed in USA", "Engineered in Japan", and in really small letters, "made in Vietnam".
