A nice backpack you should consider.

Bottom Line: This backpack is exactly what it claims to be. 1. I can’t fit a lot of stuff inside. I know there were some reviews about the lack of space but I honestly don’t understand how. I added a picture of some stuff I wanted to fit in on my first try and there was plenty of room after that. I can carry my laptop and daily stuff and a jacket and my coffee mug and my water bottle/jug and still have room. So much room. 2. It is not hard to locate your stuff. Seriously I’m not especially organized and I can reach in there and find whatever I’m looking for quickly. If you need your wallet often put it on top or spend literally 15 seconds looking for it. 3. The front pocket is not useless. I put some cheap sunglasses and my car keys in there. Haven’t lost any of that. For my important small stuff I have a little pouch I got with my laptop sleeve I stick in there. 4. I added a picture of the new/not fully loaded backpack on my back. I’m 5’ 2 and a little chubby but it fits fine. It’s taller rather then fatter so it feels and looks a little different on the back. 5. Not quite rain resistant. I’ve walked through some rain and it has gotten wet but not soaked. Stuff ok on the inside though. I wouldn’t walk through a rain shower with it. 6. Drawstring with flap is nice and a little bit more difficult for pickpockets. Good quality. 7. If your package doesn’t quite look like mine you’ve likely gotten an imitator or knock-off. I’m pretty sure I didn’t have that issue based on the tags and bag and emblem all being present and looking correct. Buy from amazon directly if you can.

Popular for a reason

Everyone and their sister has this backpack on my campus, and I always thought that it was just an expensive trend with no basis. However I gave in when I realized how awful my $25 backpack with no back support or strap padding was when I was lugging around my things on campus. I wanted something sturdier and with an amazon giftcard to subsidize part of the cost, I went for it. I love this backpack so much, it literally is the most comfortable thing to carry and looks amazing. One caveat: Amazon definitely has the sizing wrong. If you compare the height of the Herschel Retreat backpack on other websites you see a difference from 16" to 18". I've even seen some websites list 21". It is definitely bigger than 16". The flap on top adds an extra 1"-2" so I guess that is where the deviation lies. Do not buy this backpack if you are looking for a small day pack to go shopping with, it is meant to be big enough to lug around your waterbottle, laptop, books, and a change of clothes.

It doesn't have much stretch but thats good for me

As a grad student, this thing kills it. I can carry my laptop, four text books, notebook, pencil case, wallet, water bottle and snacks. It doesn't have much stretch but thats good for me, otherwise I would keep shoving things in it. I use it running across a giant campus and on the MBTA. Even full it doesn't feel as heavy as it should. I get all the hype around them.

Herschel is one of my favorite new companies

Herschel is one of my favorite new companies. My boyfriend ended up loving the navy blue collection, so I purchase the backpack, overnight duffle bag and the traveler kit. The backpack is big enough to fit a laptop in the padded sleeve, books and anything else you need to put inside...it has a big carrying capacity. It also has a red and white pinstriped interior which gives it a nice pop when you open up the bag. It has held up nicely to almost daily use and we don't plan on buying another bag or backpack from another company. Definitely worth the price!

Great Backpack for Travels and Everyday

This backpack is awesome. I use it frequently when traveling, and it was an essential when hiking through Europe and Lebanon. It's very well-made, has excellent padding to keep my laptop safe, and I can fit a ton of stuff inside (basically everything for a day of hiking or as an overnight bag).

Good for all occasions and adventures!

I got the PLUM for someone as a Gift, and they loved it! The detailing is great and well made, the dimensions definitely pop! This design seems limited editiin because i haven't seen it anywhere else, and living out in SoCal everyone wears this brand, i love the fact that it has a really nice velour lining for place of a laptop or any type of fragile thing you decide to carry, simple pockets, easily adjustable straps, and good material, water resistant. Easy to clean. Also very trendy in aesthetics. GREAT BUY,A

Stylish, classy backpack

It's a nice well-made backpack. Even though the pricing is slightly higher than other brands but you cannot beat the look and make of this product. Material is thick and I believe can last a long time. I bought this for a trip to Japan and wore it a few times wearing heavy stuff and it doesn't tire me out too much. The style is good for a medium size girl, not too big and bulky. Pretty stylish and highly recommend.

Adorable and Functional!

This backpack is adorable and perfect for my purpose. I travel a lot for work and have to carry several pieces of equipment. This bag is truly a gem for how much capacity it has. The laptop sleeve is padded enough that I feel comfortable my Macbook Pro is safe while the separate compartment can hold several pieces of connection equipment (USB multiport, laptop charger, cable bag, etc) along with my notebook, water bottle, and more. I was surprised at how much it can hold. For those looking for something with many separate compartments, this might not fit the bill. But I am super happy to have found a bag so functional for me that also has an adorable style.

Def cop this, bro

I used this on a recent family vacation over the holidays whilst in New York. My first Herschel backpack. Man, now I know why people like this brand so much. Premium materials that are comfortable and honestly just looks cool. I’ve been into camo recently and I like the grey version. This could def become an everyday bag for work, too. Plenty of room and you can lift the flap to really secure it with the rope.

I constantly receive compliments on this bag! I prefer it over the much larger little America backpack. It's durable for my laptop which I carry to work regularly. It is also my go-to travel bag. Took it with me to Thailand for 2 weeks, and it was absolutely perfect. Comfortable & can hold a lot of my crap :) It's not a tiny bag but it's not massive bag either like a Burton bag. It's the perfect size for me (I'm 5 ft 8 in) and the price is good for the quality.
