Excellent nutrition in terms of recent research, and excellent taste
As a neuroscientist, I read widely beyond my specialty areas, especially research on nutrition and health. I also read labels. I liked the formulation of the original Orgain nutritional shake, especially its having more protein than sugar (the reverse of most "nutritional" drinks), so I tried it. I liked it and drank 1 or 2 containers every day -- until Orgain produced its Vegan nutritional shake. It cuts sugar even further, and does not sweeten it with any other sweetener. Recent research suggests that sweet taste ("natural" or artificial) itself can cause problems. Vegan Orgain tastes just right to me. I drink at least two per day, and sometimes pour a little into my coffee -- the Vanilla works very nicely as a creamer. Another benefit, usually overlooked by nutritionists, is that vegetable protein has more arginine relative to lysine, making it more available for producing NO (nitric oxide), which is essential for relaxing arterial muscles.

Godsend for dairy-free breastfeeding mommy
This was a godsend after I had my daughter, who I was breastfeeding. She had severe CMPA (cow’s milk protein allergy) to the point of major internal inflammation and bleeding from micro tears in her intestines & stomach. It was awful and heartbreaking, and we only discovered what was wrong after a lactation consultant (nursing/breastfeeding specialist) urged us to get her stools checked for blood and to explore the possibility of an allergy. When a child has CMPA like mine did, it can take up to 4 weeks to heal. It’s painful, and the baby has what seems like extreme colic for months. That may be TMI for some, but I share it to give context on how much my diet impacted that of my child. Sure, we could have switched to a prescription formula, but that wouldn’t change the time it took her insides to heal, and it wasn’t the absolute best way to provide her with the nutrition and antibodies I wanted to give her. I was committed to BFing. It was a MAJOR sacrifice and made my life extremely difficult (do you have any idea HOW MUCH milk, whey, casein, and dairy in general there is in our foods, and even some toothpastes?!?!?) Dairy is everywhere so I needed some staples I could really rely on. This was my go-to. I was a dairy-aholic: yogurt, kefir, milk, cheese... so it was a big change. Even eating out is difficult. You have to talk to the chef, explain the allergy and insist everything be prepared separate from all other foods and that they use oil instead of butter. So stressful! When you’re a new mom, and especially if you’re nursing for ~12 hours (on and off) every day/night, you need nutrition and fluids. This shake is not nearly as tasty as its dairy counterpart, but you get used to it. It’s best when really cold. It’s not disgusting; it didn’t make me gag. But, it was bland, sort of like chalky dirty water with a hint of cocoa. While that’s the truth, from my POV, it’s REALLY not unbearable. Also, after a while, you come to enjoy it. It’s like anything else, it’s an acquired taste. Now, as others said, when they changed the ingredients, it did go down a good bit in taste. I’ve had both versions, and the original is way better. But whatever the current option (ingredients) is for you as you read this, if you need a dairy-free and clean nutritious RTD shake, this is your go-to — get the chocolate! I also tried the powder (non-RTD), and this (RTD) is substantially tastier and more convenient; albeit much more expensive. I’m no longer dairy free so I’ve switched to the dairy version, which I love. I’ve tried all flavors and all brands, I think... Net, if you’re not adverse to dairy, get Orgain’s RTD (with dairy) in chocolate. If you’re vegan or dairy-free, get the light blue one (dairy free) in chocolate from Orgain. I spent a crazy amount of time (researching, reading reviews, and testing) and money, and am sharing my experience in the hopes it helps someone else.

Great premade shakes!
I'm not sure why all the old reviews from a few years ago during an ingredient change are the ones showing up on the main page- As most people have said, I'm guessing they changed it back or made an improvement, because these shakes are great! My partner and I were drinking the regular Orgain powder, but found ourselves sensitive to the lactose in it- This formula solved that problem, and as we have two small children, I appreciate being able to "grab and go" with the premade bottles. This brand doesn't have the most protein or tip top ingredients in comparison to some other hardcore protein shakes, but it's a great beginner shake/good for someone who isn't super serious about the exact healthiness of it and is moreso just looking for a way to get in more protein/vitamins, and to help stay more full between meals while trying to lose weight. Not too chalky at all and a nice, actual chocolate flavor- I take a small sip and top it off with a tiny splash of coffee creamer before shaking it up and drinking, and it's perfect! Also helps with my sweet-tooth cravings. Totally recommend!

Ding Ding Ding! It's GOOD!
I just bought this on whim for a quick pick me up when my blood sugar gets low and I need food like right now and tonight it was put to the test. I was very suprised, it is actually very good and I don't really like chocolate protein powders, I prefer vanilla. This one was a few bucks off so I bought two 12 packs and so glad I did. The chocolate one is good and creamy. It has a good texture, not too thin or too thick. The biggest win is that It does not taste like stevia!!! Yay, so it has won me over and will find a place in our fridge. I drank it way too fast because it is kind of delcious. Now I have to try the vanilla. If your trying to decide like I was and saw all the negative reviews, they must have changed the formula back or something because this is 5 star tasty!

A SOLID Meal Replacement, If Needed. GET THE CHOCOLATE!
I have my Masters degree in holistic nutrition. I also suffer from endometriosis & required a bowel resection when I was about 32, due to a severe case of the disease. *Knowing* the food & nutrition I needed to help heal my body, yet being in a state where eating regular foods was difficult, I was in a very frustrating position. Enter Orgain. Now, I am in no way suggesting this will help cure any disease or anything like that, BUT, if you need a meal replacement shake, for health (or just time) constraints, this is BY far the all-around best (in terms of ingredients, taste, cost & ease of use), in my opinion. I really like that it’s food-based & that the sugar content is *totally* reasonable. I will note, however, I’d suggest the chocolate. And definitely the pre-made shakes over the powder. The vanilla is a bit cloying.

Thumbs up from this cancer patient with an educated palate
Chemotherapy can have some rotten effects on your appetite and taste. I try to eat as many meals made from whole ingredients as possible, but often it's not possible due to lack of energy to cook or just revulsion for most foods in general. I have always shunned meals replacement shakes because the ingredients aren't productive to healing. In this case, I can live with what's inside. But it is the flavor that made me choose these over the 1001 other options on the market. No artificial sweetener is the kicker. No nasty aftertaste. Organic and reasonably palatable. Sounds like faint praise, but it's been a lifesaver. I will continue to buy until the mouth sores and nausea disappear, and be grateful for the makers of this product.

Lifts me back up when I need it
I have a severe esophageal stricture, which means that food can get stuck in my esophagus if I eat too fast or eat foods that are difficult to swallow or otherwise cause irritation on the way down. Anyway, when that happens, I'm forced to regurgitate to avoid choking and to clear the passageway so that I can get something down. An episode like this can be exhausting when the regurgitation is prolonged. (I'll feel a lasting lump in my chest that makes it difficult to breathe or do much of anything.) After the episode, my body is drained and starving for some nutrients. But the lingering irritation (and probable inflammation) means that I have to choose carefully. This protein drink has saved the day for me on such occasions. To be honest, after the discomfort and pain of the lump stuck in my chest as well as all the regurgitation, I'm not too picky about having something that tastes perfect. I find this drink to have a tolerable taste, but more importantly, I feel my energy being replenished quickly. And it's so easy to swallow, causing little to no discomfort to a stressed esophagus.

Best tasting nutritional shake out there and it has no soy or dairy!
I loved the Orgain Vegan vanilla shakes and went through 2-3 cases a month until I tried these. These are FABULOUS! I usually like vanilla better than chocolate, but Orgain really out-did themselves on this one. It has a smooth, delicious, chocolate flavor that has become my favorite protein drink. I love that it is so easy to digest and has no milk or soy to cause health issues. On a busy day, I drink one of these for breakfast, lunch, and snack, and eat a healthful dinner and it not only keeps me going all day, but helps me lose weight (probably all the protein). I know this wasn't created as a weight-loss drink, but it works for me and is an easy meal replacement on days I don't have time for breakfast or lunch.

Love it!
Have been using organ vegan protein shakes for years. The new pea protein is much easier to digest..my doctor approves! Really appreciate the price drop (thanks, Orgain!). Love the smooth chocolate...tried vanilla once but prefer the chocolate. In the many cases I've purchased over the years, there's only been one bad individual serving...definitely curdled so must have had a bad seal. Cons: 1) Sometimes it can get a little pricy so I've had to wait for a price drop, but lately it's been reasonably priced. 2) AMAZON PACKAGING!!!! I order 3 of these at a time along with other subscribe and save item and the box it's all sent in is usually crushed, shipping tape is ripped or tape is missing and has been replaced by USPS. Amazon used to let you leave feedback on their packaging...NO MORE! No way to register a complaint about their inadequate packing practices!

Orgain "fixed" the flavor profile in 2018. New re-formulation tastes much better!
I have had this on auto-order in the amazon pantry and loved the product. However, similar to other recent reviews on the Chocolate flavor, the recent formulation change from brown rice protein to pea protein has severely impacted taste - it's awful! It almost has a bitter taste. I'm hoping the company reads enough negative reviews to change the formulation back. I'm not ordering this again unless something changes. *******UPDATE (2018/2019). Company had contacted me and based on customers' feedback, they improved the reformulation. They also sent me a sample and coupons for free drinks at my local retailer. The new products are tasty once again!
