The updated M510 mouse
This review is for the returning M510 users out there. If you've owned this mouse, you should know that that Logitech has changed the design a little bit. Along with their new logo, the new "2nd Edition" M510 (missed opportunity by not calling it M510S or something) now also sports a "laser-grade" optical sensor, as opposed to the old "actual laser" sensor. After doing a deep dive for some information, the internet scholars on a couple first-page forums have confirmed a few facts for me. First, the optical sensor is not necessarily a downgrade. Laser sensors have inherent issues - some complaints on the old 510 were that it exhibited cursor stutters, jitters, and shakes - and the modified design is likely to address those concerns. That being said, laser sensors have higher a DPI resolution, which should mean that they are more precise. Conventional wisdom might make you hesitant to purchase this new M510S (my nickname for it). Why would the 'newer' model have LESS DPI's? What an outrage! Well, let's be true millennials and talk about how it feels. The optical sensor feels smooth and rounded, yet agile and lively. It's actually really enjoyable. The cursor "acceleration" on the older version became more pronounced while using them side by side, and it started to get annoying after I actually noticed it. Without subtle wiggles, the overall experience is more precise. Fortunately, the folks at Logitech seem to be pragmatists and have figured that, while they took away some of the super-awesome DPI's, the mouse actually performs more satisfactorily during real-world use. After doing way more research that I bargained for, I found out that most people would agree too. I wish the change was more clearly communicated, though. I almost didn't even open the packaging because I thought it was counterfeit, so my first time using it was littered with skepticism. I wrote this review because I don't think I'll be the last person to go through that. If you currently own or have owned the 1st version M510 and want to replace it or get a second one but are now reluctant because it's a different design, just buy it. That's the beauty about this thing: a mouse is not something worth obsessing over, and it just works well.

What has not been mentioned
My Logitech M310 was not working with Windows 10. I struggled for a year (slow learner) and finally upgraded to the Logitech M510. Phew, what a difference! The M310 was skipping and dragging and often freezing with Windows 10. The M510 is responsive like a mouse should be. Why did I wait so long? Things you need to know. 1.) I am NOT a gamer. So any review of how they use the mouse will be left to them. I do use Adobe Photoshop and all the normal business computer programs, and this mouse is perfect for those. One important thing to know about this M510 mouse is that the USB Unifying Receiver has been upgraded and must be installed into your computer for it to work. I also have a Logitech K800 Keyboard which works with the same Unifying receiver that my old Logitech M310 did. If you have the same configuration you will need two free ports to have both receivers installed. In case you are planning to buy the Red one. It is NOT red, but more of a bronze color. Had I known that I would have bought the blue one. The scroll wheel is more course, than the smooth action of the M310. So I am getting used to that. The M510 is a bit Larger than the M310. Again, takes a bit of getting used to. Hope this review is of help.

So Nice To Have 'Back / Forward' Buttons Again!
So, I purchased this Logitech M510 mouse because it's compatible with a MAC PC, along with my OS version. Upon on receipt, unwrapped, ensured batteries were set properly, plugged in the USB wireless reader. PC recognized it immediately. I had to go to Logitech site to download the 'options' program to set the back/forward buttons. That was easy, and the entire process of setting this mouse up took approximately five (5) minutes. I couldn't be more pleased. After using Apples white mouse for two years, because there wasn't anything out there that would work, or was compatible, for a MAC, it's GREAT to be able to use the back / forward buttons again. The Apple mouse was pure manual, having to move the cursor up to the back / forward arrows on a website, if you wanted to go back or forward. Just a lot of unnecessary moving around of the cursor...IMHO. If I have any issues with this mouse in the future, I'll come back and update this review. But for now, I'm pretty darned happy and content with this Logitech mouse. I would recommend this product for anyone using the Apple mouse, and want their back / forward button operations back.

Logitech is the best!!
I've owned Logitech mice in the past, my last one lasted for almost 5 years and endured heavy use before it finally crooked. When that one died I tried to save a few dollars and bought a no-name brand, what a mistake, it didn't even last a year. It's Logitech or nothing from now on, they've NEVER let me down, last for ever, have a long battery life and true plug-n-play set up. This particular mouse is a bit longer slimmer than what I'm used to. I have small chubby hands with short fingers so it's taking a bit of getting used to, this is not a fault of the maker, I think that for the average person the shape would be ideal. However the buttons are easy to depress so even tho my short little fingers don't reach to the end of the buttons, I don't have a problem with operation. I only mention it so that if you have small hands, just keep in mind that this mouse is longer. The side buttons are perfect for web surfing, allowing you to go forward or backwards from site to site with a press of a button. The scroll wheel is smooth and also serves to scroll left and right. One last thing, inside the battery compartment, which by the way there were 2 duracell batteries installed and ready to go not some cheap crap from china, anyway, inside the battery compartment is a place to put the little widget/receiver so you don't loose it if you have to pack up your stuff. As for the finish, the top is a nice metallic blue, the sides are a rubbery texture for a good grip. All in all 5 stars, another great peripheral from Logitech

Direct replacement for my ancient, broken M510, but worried it might not work with my KVM switch...
I work at home 100% of the time and use a work-issued laptop and (currently) a Chromebox (like a Chromebook, but not as portable). So that I'm not constantly swiveling my chair between the two devices, I have them -- and one keyboard, one display, and one mouse -- connected to a KVM switch. That's how I flip between the two computers, when needed. I'm left-handed, so that tends to limit me to ambidextrous/symmetrical mice. About 6.5 years ago, I found that the M510 was about the right feel in my large hand (Logitech discontinued a larger wireless mouse that I used to use until it started to fail), so I plugged the Unifying Receiver into the USB port for the keyboard and set about computing and never really looked back. Fast-forward to a week or two ago and I noticed that my drag-and-drop operations were not going well. I'd click, drag, and the item I was dragging (e.g., a browser tab) would often get dropped somewhere unintended. So I'd have to figure out where it was accidentally dropped and try again. I suspect there were other, similar mouse-related problems I was facing, but that was the biggest one. I imagined that the microswitch for the left mouse button was becoming clicked as desired, but then would (due to age? dirt? whatever?) "unclick" on its own, causing the problems. As a fix, I tried pressing really hard on the button for the click and hoping that would prevent the unintended unclick, but after a couple of passes doing that, I'd forget, click lightly, and the unintended-unclick problem would come right back. Since I didn't want to spend the next month trying to train myself to click harder on a failing mouse, I found an M510 on Amazon, placed and order and... was told that it would arrive the following week. Ugh. Not what I wanted to see. However, as luck would have it, I got a "your order will be delivered sooner than expected" email and sure enough, I got it two days later (today). In the intervening two days, though, I saw that my wife had a spare M510 sitting on one of her office shelves. I tested its batteries as good, swapped out my old Unifying Receiver and mouse for her "new" ones and... nothing. :( I tried over and over and powered off the KVM and then back on and... still nothing. I asked her to test the spare M510 on her Windows machine and she said it worked perfectly, so clearly there was something in her spare M510 that was preventing it from working with my KVM. Of course, this scared me a little because if this new M510 I'd ordered was going to not work for me like her spare M510 didn't work for me, then I'd be right back where I started, with a misbehaving old M510. Ugh. Anyhoo, I removed my old Unifying Receiver, turned off my old mouse, opened the new M510 package, installed the new Unifying Receiver, turned on the new M510 mouse and... it works! Hopefully, I'll get another 6.5 years of service out of this new one. Also, if the new one is effectively identical to the old one, I only found myself replacing its 2 AA batteries once a year or so, which I found to be perfectly acceptable. Honestly, I was hoping that the M510 price would have been a lot less, given that this model has probably been around for a decade now, but I was in a pinch and probably would have paid double (Erp! Pretend I didn't say that!) so that I didn't have to try to find a different mouse that fit my hand. Anyway, happy Logitech and Amazon customer and glad it's working again. (I even briefly tried reversing the mouse buttons and that was like trying to ride a bicycle backwards while blindfolded. Thanks but no thanks.)

Best mouse I have ever used
I have had this mouse for years...not sure how long, at least 4-5 years, best I can remember. I was recently thinking how much I love this thing, and figured I should write a short recommendation. So, first of all, I have used this mouse for gaming, and it's great, but it does have only two side buttons to go with the wheel and normal left/ right mouse buttons. So if you want a mouse with umpteen programmable options, look at another mouse. But it is super accurate (far more accurate than any non wireless mouses I have used), and I have had not a single problem with it. It is the size of a normal business type mouse (minor edit, I'd say it is *slightly* larger than some business sized mouses...but it is a plus to me, since it is far more comfortable for me to use than most mouses...in any case, people with very small hands may find it a little large), which is a plus to me. I don't believe I have yet replaced the batteries even. I used this on my desktop for years with absolutely no issues, and I just started using it on my new laptop with absolutely no issues. I wish every piece of computer tech I have used over the last 30 odd years was as satisfactory and reliable as this mouse. Prior to this, I used a Logitech more gaming oriented mouse at home (sorry I don't have the model number at hand), and I loved that mouse, and it was slightly more programmable, but honestly not much more capable than this one...and it was not wireless. If this one bit the dust I would instantly buy another. The most most accurate and reliable mouse I have ever used. And cheap, too. Strongest recommendation.

If you live in Texas....
I've been very happy with my new mouse! The Logitech brand and that there is no blinding blue light coming from underneath the mouse were the two main reasons I purchased this one. I've never used another brand in all of my mouse purschasings (except the three I bought for my daughter at the pet store one Christmas-although they were very sweet, they required SO much more upkeep than Logitech mice). About a month after I was so happy with my lovely new computer mouse purchase-- spilled a very large (24 oz), very full glass of ice water all over my work surface. My laptop was high and dry. Unfortunately my brand new blue Logitech mousy took the full hit from the ice water tsunami. I'm not exaggerating when I write that I when I picked her up, every time I gently shook her- water just gushed our like a waterfall. I thought for sure she was a goner. I took out the batteries and dried everything out as best I could with paper towels. I left her sitting with her cover off for a few days to totally air out. Then I put new batteries, slid the lid back on and held my breath. She worked like nothing ever happened!!! I will always buy Logitech mice! She works beautifully!! Thank you so much, Logitech!!! I'm just so pleased. I would not recommend repeating my accident on purpose to see if you get the same results. Haha! But if you live in Texas, you know it is always hot and you are probably always drinking a big glass of ice water, too. So buy a Logitech mouse just in case!

Old-school feel mouse with a couple nice improvements
I am a big fan of this mouse and have been using it for over two years. In that time, I have only had to replace the batteries (2xAA) once, so the lack of a rechargeable feature is not bad. The mouse has a good feel, not quite as contoured as a gaming mouse, but enough to make it comfy for extended use. The contouring is symmetrical, so lefties can enjoy it as well, though of course the buttons are on the left side for a right-handed thumb. Mouse wheel is a non-smooth scrolling wheel, which is actually my preferred type (sometimes when gaming, you just want to scroll through two weapons, not just spin the wheel and hope it lands on the correct one). 2.5 years later, the mouse is still working well, with only occasional cleanings of the top and bottom. Buttons are still as responsive as before (as far as I can tell), including side buttons, mouse wheel, and side-scrolling on the mousewheel. Range on the mouse is good, and I can easily use it from the other room without difficulty. Response time on the mouse is good, and I have not yet experienced any delays while using it. Have not yet tried to hook another device up to the unified receiver though. The logitech software has some good customizability features, including tweaking the functionality differently for different programs. For instance, in my browser, I have the buttons switch tabs, go back or forward a page, etc., while in the media player, I set the buttons to play/pause, rewind, go to the next item in the playlist, etc., making it a pretty effective remote control. The software runs constantly in the background, but isn't too bloated (averages about 3 MB of RAM usage, 0% of CPU usage). Overall, a great budget multi-purpose mouse with a few good features added in.

Gaming and Office
I picked this up for my office battle station as I wanted to get rid of the wired mouse I had. I found it has the perfect shape and weight for my needs. I found it so great that I wondered how it'd fare for gaming on my home machine. I'd previously used a variety of higher end gaming mouse.. mouses.. mice? Anyhow, a fancy mouse with insane dpi, too many buttons, ultra light, etc. I used to play Counterstrike (classic fps) with a very simply Microsoft mouse back in the day and I've always been chasing after that perfect feel since. This is it-- the M510 is perfect (for me)-- I play a ton of modern FPS (EFT, Apex, PUBG, etc.) and this is the minimalistic, weighted, option I've wanted for a while. Take note that your mileage may vary-- what works for me, may not work for you.. but if you want a wireless option with a bit of substance to it and response time (and battery life) that is excellent for office work and gaming this might be worth checking out.

UPDATE 09/21/2018: The battery drains continuously if you forget to turn off the power switch on the bottom of the mouse when finished (So do not forget). It is unfortunate the mouse will not turn itself off after not being used after a period of time. This forgetfulness could be interpreted as poor battery life. Carry extra batteries just in case... Original Review I just received this mouse. It plugged and played as expected. It is conveniently small enough for my laptop and large enough to be ergonomically functional. I am pleased. Since quality appears very good, I expect good durability. It is too soon to determine battery life but I expect it to be acceptable Functioned out-of-the-box, plug-and-play. Appears very well built. Small enough for my laptop and large enough to be very ergonomic. It is too soon to rate battery life and durability but I expect both to meet my expectations. I would buy this model again. I have another larger model of a Logitech Mouse that I am very satisfied with.
